Having my first experience of a Meridian soon, from London to Sheffield. Anyone had any experience of a Meridian. Never ridden with EMT on a "big" train so I am wondering what their First Class is like.

Never ridden with EMT on a "big" train so I am wondering what their First Class is like. It's been a fair while since I used EMT but I have used First Class on a Meridian although I may be about to use them again - barring rail strikes! It's OK if you like leather seats. The legroom is reasonable and obviously the seat is wider than in Standard Class. The problem with Meridians is the underfloor engines which makes them relatively noisy compared to a IC125 or electric stock. I can't comment on what the catering offer is like in First Class on EMT and what is complimentary and what isn't.

Thanks snoggle. Never thought about the engines. So used to the East Coast route and a little bored with it so decided to take a different route up to Leeds
