Wish I could see the first entry - is it from a newbie? If that's true, then at least get rid of those d*mn cycle highways. Cyclists don't observe traffic laws so don't deserve preferential treatment. From what was on LBC and the news yesterday, they're not even grateful enough to use them

From what was on LBC and the news yesterday, they're not even grateful enough to use them Cyclists aren't going away and just to make sweeping statements about not observing traffic laws, when I suppose motorists do? The majority of drivers do obey the law of the road. Motorists have more to lose as they're registered by their vehicle (numberplates) and their licence. We can get fines for jumping lights. Not a sweeping statement, but a scientific fact. Watch the next time you're on a bus and you come to a red light, howe many cyclists will either a.) ride straight through if it's just a pelican crossing b.) If major junction like Farringdon Road, will get off part-way - and wheel the bike across through the red and then mount their bike and continue their journey. My pet peeve is when they use the pedestrian crossing to cycle across, or if they feel like it ride on the pavement. As a driver, it's something scary when you see a figure dressed all in black, devoid of lights on a bike just cut across you. I used to cycle to college every day and I know how it is on the road, but you still have to observe traffic laws if you want to use the public road. Simples

Your not seriously telling me that cyclists are perfect and always abide by the Highway Code? Yes, there are motorists who break the law but from my observations, there are more cyclists who break the law.

How can you tell how many motorists have no licence, insurance, MOT etc?

Indeed, no insurance = car impounded but many people still take the risk because they think there is little chance of getting caught. I don't understand the ill feeling towards cyclists, more bikes means less cars and less pollution and congestion just like in many other European cities.

I don't understand the ill feeling towards cyclists, more bikes means less cars and less pollution and congestion just like in many other European cities. Indeed and additionally. More Cyclists also adds - More Observation for Motorists, because many cyclists are poor at observation. - They are highly vulnerable - Its not uncommon to see Cyclists not following the highway code, going through Red Lights and using Mobiles while Cycling - If they get hit by a Motor Vehicle the Driver gets the blame, how is that fair? - They are more dangerous for Truck Drivers and there are many blind spots, a Cyclists imo should not dare come alongside any truck

My pet hate is theres a cycle path down the A4 from Heathrow down to hogarth roundabout and beyond... Why insist on riding in the carriageway then wonder why they get abused, knocked off etc, councils spent thousands on this to "segregate them. What makes the cycle superhighway any different. you'll still get cycles in the main carriageway. Should be a law that states of there's a cycle path then it's compulsory you use it.

Germany pioneered the creation of cycle paths in the 1930s - because the Nazi party wanted cyclists off the roads. By 1936 they had outlawed cycling groups.

I don't disagree with any of this and as far as I'm concerned using a phone while driving should be treated the same as drink driving, court appearance, heavy fine and ban of at least 3 months. I agree in principal about cyclists having to pass a test but it will never work, there are enough drivers on the road without licences, insurance etc.

Anyway, back to the original topic, ITV News yesterday had a short report on the growing number of electric cars on London's roads and a woman from the electric car industry mentioned that they had discussed bus lanes being allowed for electric cars but she conceded that it's unlikely to be implemented as it would slow down public transport which she wouldn't like to see happen.
So, after striking Sadiq Kahn of my 'vote' list, looks like I'll be crossing Zac Goldsmith off too.
