Shelving the Bridge was inevitable with tight constraints on TfL finances, the electric ferry idea sounds quite innovative and exciting but I can’t see it happening any time soon. Shaun Bailey’s idea to reallocate money from this bridge to Hammersmith Bridge for repairs is the first good idea that’s come out of his mouth, I think he probably views this crossing as a luxury Diamond geezers Blog has a really interesting article about this "New" ferry service that is going to be made seeing as there is already a ferry service doing that exact journey diamondgeezer.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2019-06-24T01:00:00%2B01:00&m=1As for new crossings we definitely need a new road crossing of some time a bridge or something that goes oout from Beckton/Barking to Thamesmead it's long overdue ! And as for the New Woolwich Ferry everytime I've gone to use it on weekends it's been closed even tho tfl website claims it had been open what is the point ? A new river crossing is absolutely needed. Industrial action seems to get the better of the Woolwich ferry these days. Growth around the brownfield sites will only get bigger. The A13 alone cannot cope with the continuous demand of new businesses (relocation of Billingsgate, Smithfield and Spitafields market for example) and housing along the corridor. The Silvertown tunnel won’t do much to alleviate pressure on Blackwall as it will effectively be a one lane bore either way for traffic.

I would have thought the DLR would have lead to the demise of the ferry yet it still goes strong, presumably because King George V isn't very close to the northern terminal hence why some chose to use ther ferry to reach Woolwich

If you’ve got kids or are less mobile, public transport isn’t appealing. A lot of the ferry use is business trade. Lorries, white vans etc. What really annoys me about that part time useless junk crossing is that there is a huge queuing area within the terminal that never gets used. Instead waiting traffic always spills out across the roundabout causing tailbacks and creating danger for road users. Whose responsibility is that? The council or TfL?

The thing that worries me about the new Silvertown crossing is the congestion in will cause. As I mentioned elsewhere there is a huge amount of flats being built in the Canning Town / Silvertown Way area and the local roads just won't be able to cope with the volume of traffic. If the plan is to direct the traffic from the tunnel towards the Lower Lee Crossing that will just result in gridlock as it will result in the flow of traffic heading back towards the Blackwall Tunnel. There is no easy route onto the A13 heading east either since they removed the Canning Town Roundabout.
Its a shame the bridge at Gallions Reach was scrapped.

The ferry is used a lot by them, due to no suitable crossings from Dartford to Blackwall Tunnel Southbound, then Northbound Tower Bridge. This is the problem why the silvertown tunnel wouldn't solve much.

This seems to be dragging out forever, at this rate the tunnel would be open in 2050

Wasn’t this confirmed in the tender award link posted by snowman? Let’s face it, the bill and timelines will keep rising.
