ITV London NewsThis has already been discussed in the bus review thread, maybe you should put your link in that thread.

Gives me another reason to dislike taxis - I'd wouldn't be sorry to see them go at all the way they drive in Central London regularly cutting up buses and selfishly not giving away to buses either. Back to the main point, you either ban all traffic or leave it as it is - just allowing taxis automatically means it's not pedestrianised and makes no sense given you'll see loads of taxis alongside buses on Oxford Street on a normal day anyway.

They need to learn the definition of 'pedestrianised'! They'll allow cyclists down there next... oh wait.

I wonder what they suggest. Oxford Street is already traffic reduced considering only buses and taxis are permitted between Ox and Orchard Street. Maybe they should ban taxis and charge a premium tax on the residents for them having to divert away (certainly I wouldn't put the cost on the passenger!) Or ban the bus and send it through nearby roads? Oh they didn't want that either, can't have it all eh?

What do residents of any area ever want - unrestricted access and free parking for themselves, their friends who visit, anyone who has to visit their properties on business / emergency reasons. Everyone else can go hang / be banned from *their* area. Cynical moi? People don't ever consider there is a wider context to things. It's "me me me" time.

Just a thought - with the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street in mind, Cavendish Square could be redeveloped into a major bus hub to save all routes currently terminating at Oxford Circus. Terminating routes could use Wigmore Street and through routes could be rerouted via Brook Street to avoid congesting either roads. If my desire of TFL consulting this idea actually happens, then this would be the only instance I would agree with them not giving a crap about opposition from the public just as they usually do

It does not surprise me. As every thing about Oxford Street when it mentions buses is very anti bus. You would think that no where in London has more buses running on it than Oxford Street. There are far more taxis there and any are older than buses, and kicking out a lot of smoke at times. Electric or hybrid taxi's are virtually extinct. We now have a model of taxi made from the Ashes of Metrocab company that is hybrid, but they are still way far behind, then they wonder why companies like Uber have infiltrated them so badly. I would blame taxis for most of Oxford Street pollution than buses. Many of the politicians are afraid to ever bring measures against taxis for years.

Here we go again. London Assembly Transport Cttee want an "immediate and sizeable reduction" in buses on Oxford Street. They've written the Mayor about his plans to pedestrianise Oxford St. www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/letter_to_mayor_-_oxford_street_final.pdfMeanwhile ... So we haven't worked out what to do for those with mobility issues. We will keep pandering to the taxi trade because we're rich enough to use taxis and s*d anyone else who might want to use a bus. They can walk - including in the pouring rain, howling gales and snow and ice. Oh and we especially don't give a d*mn if you need to travel at night on a weeknight when the tube's shut. We're sorry you have to trek from TCR to Marble Arch on shank's pony.
