www.mayorwatch.co.uk/tfl-trialling-new-battery-operated-countdown-screens/Seems TfL are having another go at trying to provide countdown display info at stops in a more affordable way. Only being trialled at one stop at Northwood Station. Seems a sensible initiative but I'm not convinced by the display at all - how do you read that in the dark? Also looks ghastly but that's "cheap" for you. Do I assume the "liquid paper" Countdown panel displays are not considered a success? I've lost track as to quite where TfL are going with all this.

They look similar to those used all over Germany.

I'm assuming there is some sort of light that illuminates the display in darker conditions. Judging by the example in the image there appears to be a circular object protruding out from the top black part which could be the light, or perhaps it could an adaptive brightness sensor which allows the screen to illuminate in the dark.

Battery powered?? I'm assuming they are solar powered rechargeable batteries or is money going to be spent on a large team of battery changing staff in conjunction with a multi million pound deal with duracell??
