Brighton to Eastbourne is about 80 minutes, very nice route though.

13X on Sundays stops at Beachy Head itself. Does get very busy. I do like the 12 group routes and their cliff-hugging undulation. Do prefer the 12x as it spends a little less time pootling about in Newhaven. A Brighton plusbus ticket will get you to Seaford on the 12s.

A favourite of mine is the 191 between Medway and the Isle of Grain. Views across the Hoo peninsula and North Kent, and right across the Thames Estuary to Southend. Long runs along empty country lanes on a double decker bus which you have mostly to yourself for the last 6-7 miles, and the drivers can give it some. If a bus has become very late (happens often, reliability is a problem) you might get a surprise trip through the Medway Tunnel to make up time.

The 700 from Bluewater is a long flat-out blast down the A2 and links the TfL network to Arriva's 'deep kent' routes, a few of which have merits. The day ticket is fairly reasonable.

I agree about the Brighton to Eastbourne routes and the 191 out to Grain, there used to be some express journeys that went through the Medway Tunnel. I've had some fast blasts along the A2 on the 700 overtaking lorries.

I would say the H91 and the 222. Very fast routes and a benefit of the 222 is that you often see landing planes.

I recommend the 285 for views looking over Heathrow.

I think the 482 is better for views at Heathrow personally. Hugs the perimeter for much further.

Im old enough to recall the 285 and 90B crossing an apron connecting the BA maintenance area with the main airfield. If you were lucky a jumbo would be towed right in front of you.

I rode the 81 a couple of days ago from Slough to Harlington Corner and there was a lot of close up views of planes landing into Heathrow

Yes the 81 as well. Maybe the 120 but I cannot comment as I have never ridden that route.

When the 435 was in existence I used to go for a ride just to cross that apron area.  At the time it was the only DD route round the east of the airport, the 90 and 285 being stuck with Darts.  Despite the low frequency of the 435 I did once get lucky with a 747 being towed right in front of the bus.

The N9 is also good for airport views, although obviously there's not much overlap between its operating hours and active airport hours.

I am sure I am about to be the victim of quite significant ridicule for saying this but I really do think the 24 is a must-do route. Yes, it uses awful LTs, and it tends to be a car park, or if not a heavily-regulated dawdle, but it covers some really important sights in London as well as some interesting suburbs and it is still a really important journey.

Some less controversial suggestions would be the 139, 135, 56, W3 (sit of the left towards Finsbury Park or on the right towards Northumberland Park for the best views in London), 107 (especially at night for the thrash), 31 and the 521. Plus I have 4 personal favorites.
100: Fascinating insight into Wapping and brilliant views of the City and the Shard
274: Just spends its entire time-twisting through really pleasant, nice parts of London, I particularly like the section around Primrose Hill and Regent's Park.
D8: A really scenic tour of the Docklands, Stratford and Canary Wharf.
344: You have to ride this route in the south/west direction. So much brilliance - great view of the monument, the Monument street twist, the only Bus over Southwark Bridge, brilliant ride along the river, the US Embassy and Battersea Power Station - it is a shame it has to end at Clapham Junction which is a bit of a dump.

I'm not sure Clapham Junction & dump belong in the same sentence the area has been gentrified for many years now

I was talking more about the station itself, when it gets busy (which it almost always is) it can get quite oppressive.
