I wonder if TfL will step in or leave it as it is. I wonder TfL will now reconfigure the bus routes. Next month was supposed to be a change on 419 (merged with 110) consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/bus-changes-richmond/GoAhead are due to take over the 209 & 609 in August RATP had been awarded 72 on basis of strengthening completed in 2016 with 20 hybrid double decks. (Subsequently reallocated to 18) Might be death knell of RATPs 3 remaining DPS if routes get reconfigured

I wonder if TfL will step in or leave it as it is. I wonder TfL will now reconfigure the bus routes. Well who knows. TfL and H&F Council have been "discussing" [1] the work scope and funding for an eternity. The lack of money and lack of action always ran the risk that we would get to this position. I'd not be astonished if there is now another "discussion" over the test results with TfL arguing they're not as bad as H&F say they are. I would not be surprised if the leader of H&F Council has been on the phone haranguing Mayor Khan and Heidi Alexander over this mess. I suspect that Wandsworth and Richmond Councils may also have been on the blower too as the traffic fall out from this will be extensive. I fear the bridge will be closed for several years now because TfL doesn't have the financial capacity to just pluck £30m out of the air these days. I don't recall any money or reference to the bridge in the TfL Budget for the current financial year so that means a wait until at least next April. I expect bus operators will have to implement whatever reserve plans TfL have in place for coping with a prolonged closure. I am assuming here that TfL have such plans because the risk of a long closure has been present for a long period of time. [1] polite word for arguing like hell

72 being diverted via Great West Road, Chiswick bridge and Mortlake
33, 209, 419, 485, 609 all terminating at Lonsdale Road, not serving Hammersmith

72 being diverted via Great West Road, Chiswick bridge and Mortlake 33, 209, 419, 485, 609 all terminating at Lonsdale Road, not serving Hammersmith I wonder if this diversion will end up with route 72 (and probably 33) converted to Double Decker operation seeing as the restriction has been removed and won't be present for many years now, seeing as I imagine the next time the bridge opens it should be strong enough for doubles.

The reason for the closure was the discovery of a large crack in the bridge's structure on a regular safety check. As these checks are weekly, something has gone severely downhill since last week ...

Just leave both as are currently and draw up a plan for them when the two routes are set in concrete again.

I don't think there's actually any uncertainty with the 419, it's just probably going to remain cut to Castelnau for the foreseeable future, the only route that I think will need some attention given to it is the 72 as it's the one which has a considerable portion both north and south of the river so can't be cut back at the bridge - the 283 was removed from the equation quite a while ago so no need to worry about that either. If the 72 is going to remain on this diversion it's going to need a completely new timetable and a considerable increase in its PVR to help cope, wouldn't be surprised to see TfL use this opportunity to reduce the frequency or as H&F to fund the extra buses.

Cut the 419 to Castlenau or Barnes [permanently?] and use the saved buses on the 72, plus the extra DPSs, perhaps?

I did initially think that, however the 419s frequency would probably only result in one bus being freed up at most, however the 33 should also be able to release some buses should that route also be remaining at Castelnau.

Didn't think about the 33!
However, if the 72 gets rerouted [permanently?] away from Hammersmith Bridge then it could then get its intended double decks, potentially from when RATP lose the 81?! [if PVRs and suitable spares match]

33 should start using double deckers now. Might not be able to get as far as the south side of the bridge but they can terminate either at Barnes common or the red lion.

Good point. I'm not suggesting full time double Decker but maybe just in the morning during school time. FW should have enough SPs for that I believe. If permintaly then they could come from the 94.
