I'm curious to understand why does the DLR need a driver at times, when it's capable of driverless operation?

The Passenger Service Agent (PSA) is sometimes required to operate the train from the front for safety reasons, for example, if personnel are working trackside, heavy passenger loadings, CCTV failure etc etc (Thin Lizzy- resident DLR PSA person)

It's a good salary too. More than a bus driver circa 40k and little actual driving involved.

not me (I'm generally office based nowdays) but I know the guy he's a legend with his announcements- even though many of the jokes he tells on the PA are the cleaner ones I told him when I trained him
