Well I never. That's a bit of a brave purchase for Go Ahead.

Correct but there's been endless speculation on another forum that the 184 is unlikely to survive in its current form once the Manchester sales complete. We shall see. I understand it's one of the UK's most scenic routes given it crosses the Pennines.

Well I never. That's a bit of a brave purchase for Go Ahead. No doubt with one eye on franchising opportunities. Queens Road is only a mile or so out of the centre of Manchester so is well placed for operating a lot of routes.

Queens Road is only a mile or so out of the centre of Manchester so is well placed for operating a lot of routes. Sure - the announcement makes obvious hints towards keeping TfGM / Mr Burnham happy and we know what that may mean. It will be interesting to see what approach GA take given the purchased fleet is apparently middle aged and somewhat tired. That may mean a large refurb programme but as with all of these types of purchases there will probably be some new buses for whatever the "premium" routes are. I understand the depot premises are not in good shape either so more money to be spent there. The unknown question at this point is what GA will do with the network they inherit and whether they have their eyes on expanding into areas that are run by Stagecoach or whoever the purchasers are of the other two First garages. There is a small irony in that GA now own part of First Manchester and also own East Yorkshire who also owned Finglands who sold up to First Manchester back in 2014. Think I'll need a little trip with my camera to Manchester to get snapping before First disappear altogether from the area.

Think I'll need a little trip with my camera to Manchester to get snapping before First disappear altogether from the area. After Stagecoach took over First's operation in Plymouth, it was made abundantly clear that competition with GA-owned Citybus would be kept to an absolute minimum. Surprisingly (or not, given the North Devon debacle a few months earlier) the competition authorities saw fit to turn a blind eye to the comments.

Very large depot largely servicing buses from Central Manchester to northern suburbs and Salford. Examples are routes 17, 18, 33, 41, 53, 67, 92, 93, 94, 95, 97, 98, 100, 135 and the Free Bus. Also, regarding the question about route 184 from Manchester to Huddersfield, it is run from Oldham.

This could happen. Between Oldham and Manchester route 184 duplicates route 180. The frequency of route 180 could be increased accordingly.

However if First sells Oldham Depot the 180 would (presumably) cease to be a First route. I'm thinking more that First would not want another operator taking a share of the Huddersfield-Marsden traffic but equally would not want to provoke retaliation by continuing to operate the 184 into Manchester.

Go North West's operations start on 2 June 2019. The website with timetables is now live. gonorthwest.goahead.live.pancentric.net/Interesting that two of the Centrebus shuttles transfer across as does the 135 which still, I believe, uses Scania artics. Wonder how long they will last? I suspect not very long.
