I’ve been accused of all sorts of things here over the past few days. I disagree with every single one of them but I’ll defend their right to the nth degree to say how dreadful I am 😂 To be honest he's making a big deal out of it, one day of disruption is not something worth complaining about! Especially as it is a Sunday traffic levels are likely to be lower. Think about people living in Barnes and Castlenau who have lost their services to Hammersmith (bar the 533) for 4 years now, due to the closure of Hammersmith Bridge. Then there's people complaining that they will lose access to their two river crossings on Sunday. I know that crossing the Thames in East London is difficult but it's one day, not half a decade! Castlenau feels like a ghost town because of the closure. What about when Wandsworth Bridge is closed? Residents from imperial wharf and Sands End wanting to access Wandsworth will have to either travel via Putney or Clapham Junction. You're probably very mistaken with Sunday traffic levels, the ridiculous frequency of the buses on a Sunday often means people just drive around instead. You're often a complete standstill attempting to leave Gallions Reach Shopping Park all the way until at least the Beckton Roundabout. Barnes isn't an adequate comparison, the bridge there physically is in a state of disrepair while this is roads being voluntarily closed for something that should be done in a park.

Comparing east London closures to Barnes / Hammersmith bridge closure is somewhat preposterous to be honest. For once there is no shortage of river crossings in west London (and free ones if I may add). In the east we are blessed with tower bridge, Rotherhithe tunnel, Blackwall tunnel, woolwich ferry (if it runs!) and dartford crossing (tolled). Both Blackwall and the new Silvertown tunnel will get tolled in the future We can have a meaningful comparison once all bridges in London are rolled - till that time any comparison is meaningless

However I agree that East London is generally disadvantaged when it comes to cross river travel. Possibly a reason to move the cycling to North or South London

Out and about today I noticed how poor the road closure notices are for tomorrow. I think a lot of people will be caught out! Last time there seemed to be notices everywhere.
Also local bus stops have the generic yellow notices referring people online to find out which buses are affected. Not idea for example where I live as the 474 will serve stops as far as Keir Hardie but the 147 is on diversion.

My local roads are very busy as cars are struggling to find alternative routes because of the number of road closure and congestion.
Local buses seem to be struggling as well. Routes towards Poplar/ Limehouse are particularly bad this includes the 276 which is on a long diversion via the A13 and Chrisp Street.

It goes to show just how many cars are on the road already.

A few routes are already back to LOR so not all-day disruption for some, though I guess TfL likes to be cautious and give a wide window in case things aren't cleared as planned. A shame that real-time information isn't publicly available so passengers will be stuck with an outdated diversion message thinking their bus route doesn't run the usual way until the evening.

Some people may not be able to afford a car or prefer public transport. 95% of Londoners wouldn't bat an eyelid about Ride London and unfortunately there's people like you spouting crap about cyclists and cycle events. I don't want an increase in cars on the road and I'm sure you'd feel the same. It's one day of disruption only!

Cycling infrastructure, the way it's done in this country does an amazing job of inconveniencing everyone else. While I don't think today's event will cause people to rush out and buy a car, it will almost certainly result in an increase in car traffic where existing car owners may have considered getting public transport, but didn't. It's little things like this which add up. Until the day that cycling is actually put on the back burner and public transport is what is prioritised is the day where we will start to have a functioning transport network. Cycling does nothing to bring in money to fund the infrastructure, however it does an amazing job of driving people away from the things that do. This country doesn't have any set cycling standards and it has to be said the vast majority of cyclists are completely unaware of any rules of the road and are often far worse than any motor driver.

When you have actual figures let us know.
