Brunel University would seem to lose out on frequency and direct links. Not sure if there is overcapacity there at the moment.

Surprised it has taken so long for this to come to consultation, this network study was done in 2019! Although the proposals are different - no changes to the U7 are proposed and an extension and reroute is now proposed for the E7.

It always feels like consultations recently are just a re-jostling for stand space really. If you're already fiddling with the U3, why not extend it to Highgrove Leisure Centre instead of the E7? The days are gone when I'd frequently travel to Brunel to see friends or family studying there, but it'll be nice to see the U3 get an increase. It's the only route to serve the heart of the university where visitors would often head to, so a bit of extra capacity won't go amiss. TfL should not be recommending displaced passengers from the U2 at Hillingdon Hospital walk to Brunel university, it's simply not a pleasant experience. And as an east Londoner, I'm going to miss the U1, U4 and U7 running on the eastern university arm together. IT always made me feel at home! Also, pretty sure I regressed two decades in reading age whilst looking at that easy read document. Probably is the worst TfL document I've ever set eyes on in my life.

I know I maybe a pointless number stickler but to be it doesn’t sit right that the 1st U route is going to be withdrawn
If this merged route is going to become a high frequency trunk route I’d love to see that have the number U1 instead, it’s more fitting.
But I digress. Sensible set of proposals though

But does make you wonder though. The tenders should have been awarded around May this year so are extremely late and doesn’t leave much time to award the routes before April 2024. To be honest if the results come out in the next few weeks and are retains then it should be fine. True but has we have seen with other consultations the routes involved usually get some type of contract extension and moved to a later tender tranche.

Almost recreates the 223 between Heathrow and Ruislip.

Presumably the frequencies on E7 and U2 will stay the same?
I'd be intrigued to see how tye U1/3 merger plays out
My money's on a 10-12 daytime headway 👀 #placeyourbets

So TfL want to recreate a 21st century version of the historic 223 route!
U1/U3: I’d actually be in favour of this, as long as it kept the U3 number, having been my favourite bus route and have been using it since its first day way back in 1989. The U1, since the U5 was reintroduced in 2004, south of Uxbridge has been a bit of a lost cause. Initially terminating at Hillingdon Hospital then running light up Royal Lane to stand on Colham Road (by this time, the long standing stand on the hospital grounds of Royal Lane for the U2 had been lost due to redevelopment) The Colham Road stand lead to many complaints from residents as drivers were leaving engines running and were urinating in bushes and against the rear of the bus! The stand was then changed to the Coney Green stand so after alighting at the Hospital, they had the long run along Pield Heath Rd, Harlington Road up to the stand. When it was extended to West Drayton Station, one of the reasonings was to reduce the overcrowding on the U3, yet at the same time, they rerouted away from the U3’s busiest section (UX to Cleveland Rd) and sent it the same way as the U4/7 to the hospital! Now I’m not saying the U1 isn’t useful between Uxbridge & West Drayton, indeed you get many cross town journeys on it and I’ve used it on many occasions at 01:20 after a night out on the lash to get home! From observations as a local, a 10min frequency would work if it operated as a single deck route, otherwise the current 12min frequency would suffice as a DD route, although I would bump up the evening/Sunday service.
One thing I would do is have the southbound service call at Uxbridge Station. These revised stopping arrangements in the station are utterly ridiculous now (Although, that’s a rant for another occasion!)
U2: To West Drayton via Cowley! No, just no. I just can’t see anyone who would want to travel to West Drayton Station via Hillingdon Hospital and then Cowley from the Oak Farm Estate when they could either walk or use the Hopper fare to get to Long Lane for the 278 to Hayes & Harlington Station to which would be quicker and have a choice of 6tph compared to West Draytons 4tph. I wouldn’t mind betting a lot of residents along the section of the U2 travel to Hillingdon and get the Met into town. They’d be halfway there by the time they got to West Drayton! Can see the route being so unreliable during peak hours. Long Lane is a nightmare on a daily basis and Yiewsley High Street and Pield Heath Road can be horrendous at times. The Leybourne Road section in Oak Farm, pretty sure it originally was daytime hours only, due to parked cars. If it was deemed too tight/narrow for the MA’s as it was then, would be interesting to see a DE/L traverse it of an evening nowadays. The one good thing is that the less wealthy residents of the borough (south of the hospital) would get to see how the more affluent live (North of the A4020)
E7: Can’t really comment much on this, although removing it from the station seems to contradict extending it! Can’t see the OAPs who use it to get to Waitrose being happy though!.

I've made my stance on this obsession of merging routes pretty clear in that I'm against the majority however I was also waiting to hear your response knowing how knowledgeable you'd be about anything in the Uxbridge area and nearby so I'm more than happy to go with your view that it would work

I'll provide my views on these proposals:
1. I'm in favour of merging the U1 and U3 routes. This will allow for improved capacity throughout the U3 route as well between Ruislip and Uxbridge, from 4 bps to 6 bps.
2. I think that both extending the U2 to West Drayton and the hours of operation in the Serve Oak Farm estate would also be useful.
3. I'm still disappointed with the fact U7's existing, limited half-hourly service hasn't seen much investment. Personally, I would still bring up the previous plan to re-route the U1 along the route, which would've doubled the frequency.

On the U7 idea, surely it would be easier to leave the routing as it is but double the current frequency or slightly increase it to every 20 minutes and double deck it now that it's fully cleared as result of it's operation throughout Covid times?

General comments: Pretty shoddy consultation from TfL. I still expect high standards from TfL, but I have to accept times have long changed. *The diagrams do not displayed stops served and not served. *The extra detail about frequencies is tucked away under a link to learn more. That detail should be on the main consultation page ahead of the invitation to complete the survey. * Consultation states that the E7 uses double decker buses. * Not a fan of diverting buses away from stations e.g. the U1 not stopping at Uxbridge Station and not having stops in both directions at the foot of Bakers Road.TfL should be making bus travel and interchange as simple and convenient as possible. In this proposal the E7 will be withdrawn from the station and yet the H13 will serve it in both directions. Hardly a consistent approach.
U1/U3 - Could we even see permanent decking of this route? Would that make sense at the current U3 frequency rather than increasing the frequency drastically over the Uxbridge-Ruislip section? I would favour having the U3 retain stops on Bakers Road outside the underground station, but that detail is not clear from the diagrams or the text.
U2 - happy memories from this route as I used to take it to work back in the Hoppa days. It was always a novelty when I caught it during the middle of the day and it went around the back of the estate. Not sure I understand the rationale for extending it out to West Drayton. Is the 222 struggling between Cowley and West Drayton? Is there a plan for some development that impacts the ability of the U2 to terminate at Brunel? Is the 278 or Hayes Station struggling with passenger loads at busy times and TfL want to make it easier for passengers to get the Lizzie line from West Drayton? Just seems weird to extend the U2 to West Drayton without a proper rationale.
E7 - Interesting extension, but retain it to serve Ruislip Station and be consistent in line with the H13. Would love to see deckers on it - none since the old E2 that the E7 replaced.

Finally a consultation in my area of London! The U1/3 merger is interesting and a good idea. Ruislip and Ickenham had no routes to Heathrow in 2019 (bar December) now soon it could have two
The U2 proposal is also interesting, good to see Cowley Road between Cowley and Yiewsley gain a route to Hillingdon Hospital and Brunel University. I think a better idea than what was in the Uxbridge bus study.
The E7 extension is interesting but I think that it's weird to not serve Ruislip station and to no longer serve Wood Lane but serve Eastcote Road. I don't think that this proposal will take place but instead it could run via Wood Lane and then via the H13

TfL are not averse to merging and withdrawing lettered routes.
We're already losing the R2 (merged into R1/R3) and R6 (merged into B14). Now we're losing the U1 (merged with U3).
No seeming logic as to which route number is retained.
