First day of full double decker operation on the 407. Never been on the route but hopefully a welcome relief for regular users Hadn’t went on it until yesterday and it reminded me a lot of the 256 in the fact that it’s too busy and it’s E200s couldn’t cope and the E400 MMC I got on was packed exactly what happens with the 256 as well.

First day of full double decker operation on the 407. Never been on the route but hopefully a welcome relief for regular users That's a massive understatement Indeed, double deckers are only part of the problem being solved and for me its a slight relief. The constant traffic on the Godstone Road as well as Abellio's current poor performance on the route will still make me use the 434 over the 407 during busy times but at least DD's and those horrible E200's finally leaving will make the 407 more bearable to use. It remains to be seen though whether the performance of the 407 will improve though, as when there's traffic on the Godstone Road it can take up to 15 minutes just to travel from Kenley to Purley, something which can be done in 8 minutes if you use the 434 and 3 minutes by train. I'd imagine it also suffers a little bit around Wallington and Carshalton too, especially when there's traffic on the Purley Way. Nevertheless I look forward to trying it out soon! Only 6 of 8820-8843 are in service this morning, all on the 201. The rest are probably beginning to be transferred to TF

Hopefully the next tenders for the 371 amd 490 will be awarded with double deckers. 490s just been retained with single deckers. 371 may have a chance but I feel there are other routes out there which are more in need of the decking such as the 256, packed to the door on the first few stops until around Harold Wood Station/further, I cannot stress how much the Route is in need of deckers so I sincerely hope the 256 gets its proposed deckers.

Yeah I know the 490 has just been retained I was thinking way ahead. I'm sure there's loads of routes that need double deckers but 371 would be well up there along with the 256 it sounds like.

Do you think the remaining batch of ZF's will appear again on 407?

A crying shame that the 355 & P4 have to continue with single deckers especially as both routes get packed from the first stop (well second stop for the 355 as first stop is Brixton Police Station). The 355 has no restrictions either, P4 has either low trees or residents issues.

Do you think the remaining batch of ZF's will appear again on 407? It's unlikely but they still have the blinds for it so its not completely out of the question should there be a shortage of DD's. Meanwhile I saw a photo on Flickr of 2587 with the front blind partially showing 109 while showing the 407 which makes me think that they only have blinds for the 109 and 407

That's a massive understatement Oh really didn't realise it was that bad. Hopefully the next tenders for the 371 amd 490 will be awarded with double deckers. Now that one of the Enviro 400s at BC is no longer needed, I think it'd do well at TF. It could be used on the 490 during the peaks, especially to hoover up the loads the 490 picks up at Richmond during the PM peak. I think the 407 was decked due to polticial pressure from the Lib Dems in Croydon/Sutton who from a few searches of google do seem to care about buses, they successfully campaigned against cutting the 154 back, and unsuccessfully lobbied to introduce at stop at Brixton on the X68.

I wouldn't completely rule it out as it happened occasionally during the period when the 350 was double-deck spec'd. Reminds me of the time when BC had shortage of serviceable Tridents to the point where one or two G1-allocated Darts were very briefly used on the 157 and 196.
