...buying new trains for the Gatwick Express for the sake of it, it seems to me. Those excellent 44²'s are too young to be replaced! I reckon the 442s should go on fast Southern services, cascading 377s to finish off the Southern 313s. The SOuthern 313's were refurbished about 4 years ago maybe they could help additional services but I think it is needed around London Bridge the stations Norwood Junction-New Cross Gate still gets busy

This award represents a return to Thameslink services for Govia. Mind you, now that Govia will have this large Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern franchise, I reckon they will lose South Eastern in 2018.
Apparently a small number of stations will transfer from South Eastern to TSGN anyway. I think these will be on the Sevenoaks via Bat & Ball line not otherwise served by South Eastern.

319's are going to tpe for manchester local services and fgw for local services Roughly half will go to TPE and the other half to FGW I didn't think the DfT had confirmed what stock will go where - they can rarely make their mind up! I know some 319s are going north but I thought they were for Northern not TPE. TPE has its own new EMUs to take advantage of the new electrification near Manchester. I also thought it was not clear as to whether the 377s go to FGW or whether 319s do. I also understand that FGW want to keep hold of all of the DMUs freed up from the Thames Valley routes so they can bolster services elsewhere in their franchise area. I'm not 100% up to date but have been reading Roger Ford's analysis of future train orders in Modern Railways and that inevitably touches on rolling stock cascades too.

Off topic, but I got on a refurbished class 317 with wider door gabgways and 2x2 seating versus 3x3/2x2. Looked smart! I got this to Stratford from Angel Road (think I'm the only one using Angel Road station haha!)

SWT's fleet are getting some technical enhancements to the drive system to improve reliability and lower maintenance costs. Stagecoach are pretty "on the ball" when it comes to getting the max reliability out of their fleet and often have record breaking levels of kms per fault for their fleets. I have not seen anything from the TSGN franchise info that indicates what will happen to the 455s on routes out of Victoria / London Bridge. I guess we must wait and see what transpires as the Thameslink fleet kicks in and the new Gatwick fleet. Will there be any sort of cascade or will trains be redeployed to lengthen suburban services?

It sounds like there'll be a limited amount of 455s by 2018 but it does not specifically say that they will be completely withdrawn by 2018

They are my favourite train. There is no replacement stock on order and all 46 units are expected to still be used when Govia's franchise ends. The 377's are going on the Kings Lynn line so the 455's could help extend services on the Caterham line
