To make London environmentally friendly will diesel buses eventually be phased out of London? Will London operators eventually stop buying diesel buses in favour for more hybrid or electric buses?

Yes - it is Mayoral policy. I very much doubt any subsequent Mayor will change the basis of the policy. May take another 20+ years to achieve but the policy direction is set.

Are Euro VI diesels cheaper than EuroVI hybrids? I've never understoood the logic behind buying EuroVI diesels otherwise

I've never understoood the logic behind buying EuroVI diesels otherwise Yes diesels are cheaper to buy as not buying the hybrid parts and storage batteries or capacitors But hybrids use less fuel Current policy is that from 2020 (exact date within year not announced) new TfL single decks need to be zero emission (so fully electric or hydrogen fuel cell), hybrid double decks continue for now, but by 2022-2025 (still a proposal without exact start date) changes to zero emission. From memory it is proposed that no diesels (or hybrids) operate beyond 2037 in TfL service.

A quick appeal for info to help me prepare for the next bus patronage spreadsheet.
Have there been any new services added to the TfL network between 1 April 2018 and 31 March 2019? In a similar vein have there been any temporary shuttle services (as usually numbered 5xx) in the same time period?
I know we have had a couple of "new" N routes (N25, N27) but as TfL contract these separately they have always had separate patronage numbers so they are excluded.
I honestly can't think of any but forum members may know better!!
Thanks in advance.

The 303 and 305 contracts were essentially merged, with the latter route being discontinued. Thanks but there will still be patronage numbers for both routes over the last year. I also keep the database up to date with route changes so that will be reflected OK. The main issue with new / temp routes is that they throw the sequence of the data out of the spreadsheet. Also TfL sometimes just change the order because of the sorting they apply. It plays havoc if you try to just cut and paste alongside past years' data.

With a greater and greater focus on pollution and climate change as time goes by, I reckon these dates are likely to be earlier. Can easily see buses with ICE (internal combustion engine) being phased out by 2030 never mind 2037.

If that's the case why weren't electric single deckers ordered before 2020 for the bus route contracts that started before 2020 and ends after 2020? Like example how Electric Enviro 200 MMCs were ordered for the 46, 507 and 521 before the ULEZ commenced.

Are there any bus routes or if multiple then best one that sort of go in circle rather from than from point a to b and back?
