The 9th WHV at AL is for the 163's double decker working, and I believe the 80 is allocated 9 WHVs (although 1 is still at A for the 151 because the DOEs are very unreliable now especially given their age). What is the eventual plan for the DOEs? Some DOEs were/are at Southampton with Bluestar. Don’t know which ones, or how long for though.

The 493 blind situation is becoming so bad now. Serious question are there fines put in place for operators when this kind of stuff happens? Yeah it's not just 493 it's most routes at AL hav buses with paper blinds or even no blinds. Who's responsible for the blinds? The mechanics at the garage right?

The operators are offered a maintenance contract by the manufacturer. If they take it up inserts for newly won routes are included as well as repairs.

Surely there is some limit to the number of alterations made ... ie surely you can't ask for alterations every month? What is the deal?

Smart blinds have to be aligned correctly or they will rip themselves to shreds. It is a specialist task (even more with inserts).

Sorry i don't buy that the blinds are a complex mechanism, any mechanic or technician should be able to fix it. If the blinds are a specialist system then every other part of the bus must require a specialist; windscreen wipers; doors; seats; bells; windows; flooring; handlebar; another specialist for the staircase handlebar; etc starting to sound ridiculous........there is false economy created on servicing.

I think Smart Blinds are more complex than the older manual blinds. The sheer amount of buses running around with faulty blinds shows how its not always a quick fix.

They are sealed units for good reason. The alignment of blind material is critical. You may not buy it but would you expect a smart blind technician to work on a gearbox? Destinations/route numbers change in 3 locations on the bus when selected in the cab. If they are not perfectly aligned damage happens. Changes and repairs do require skills that are different to vehicle maintenance. https://www.tiktok.com/@mckennabrothers78/video/7130534297852792069
