Londonbusroutes.net now shows the 255 as the following:
255 Contract retained by Arriva London with 9 single deckers. Minor timetable alterations. (210810)

(210810) I pretty much doubt anything will be ordered for the time being, and this may well have to do with the now overdue Balham extension via unserved roads. I reckon the order for new buses is on hold until an official routing has been confirmed by both Lambeth and Wandsworth councils, which may require smaller buses depending on the nature of the chosen roads. Reading the information on the link posted by Someone, it could take many months before this progresses due to certain negotiations.

It is finally happening! Apparently they have already performed a test run on Old Devonshire Road to ensure there are no congestion problems with Balham Mosque, and so now intend to introduce the extension in the autumn after Lambeth Council have made changes to parking on their roads to allow for bus stops to be added. consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/bus-service-proposal-route-255/consult_view

I wonder if new buses will be introduced as planned, or if it will wait until contract renewal.

I've just seen a retweet from Val Shawcross which suggested some movement about route 255. Good to see this finally happening. I've just looked at the most recent South West quadrant bus map and see that the roads for the 255 extension are all marked out on the map but just not filled in yet! Not spotted that one before.

I was getting my hopes up, hoping for a partial conversion to double deckers in addition to the Balham extension, and maybe a southward extension to West Croydon (to ease congestion along London Road/the 109). I can see the DWLs staying for at least another year though, which is nice given how rare Euro 2 single deckers are. Also leaves the Streatham Hill Station stand vacant, we could see another route take its place (60? ).

The consultation states that there will be no changes to vehicles used on the 255 which is very good as the 255's DWL's are extremely unrated buses. It will remain the only TfL route to have a full allocation of Euro II single deckers.
As for the Streatham Hill Station stand, hopefully nothing uses it other than for buses turning short - certainly wouldn't extend the 60 there that's for sure!

By chance is the contract still officially new bus spec'd? This situation is rather unique as new buses were not ordered due to situations with the route and council rather than a TfL decision with fleet specs.

Does anyone know what happened to the 255 extension? TFL said the extension will take place in the Autumn, but nothing has happened so far?

Does anyone know what happened to the 255 extension? TFL said the extension will take place in the Autumn, but nothing has happened so far? This is a guess - given the extension is dependent on some highway works (kerbs, parking spaces) I rather suspect that is causing the delay. Getting local authority highway works done to time seems to be almost impossible in London. The consultation page does say that road works are required to allow bus stops to be installed and for buses to run down the roads. The last date I saw for the change was last weekend so I assume we're fairly close to something happening. Someone needs to take a stroll down the roads to be served to see what's happening and if stop poles are in place.

According to www.londonbusroutes.net, the 255 extension will commence on 18th January 2014. The PVR will also be increased to 9.
