According to www.londonbusroutes.net, the 255 extension will commence on 18th January 2014. The PVR will also be increased to 9. Are you sure? I've just read it and it states no such date...

My computer was showing up the old page from 9th December for some odd reason. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

On the 50 ATM, I've noticed that over the weekend, the "plates" for route 255 have been added to bus stops between Streatham Hill Station and New Park Road, as well as new stops along Emmanuel Road (and presumably the rest of the route to Balham). Guess the extension will definitely definitely go ahead as planned!

I asked for an update on another group and it looks like 1 March is now the start date (source LOTS). I was also told that a range of local spider maps have been updated to show the extension. They're on the TfL website but with a 1 Feb commencement date. I suspect 1 March is the right date though - the dreaded highway works strike again.

TfL have finally officially announced the extended service will begin on Saturday. www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/livetravelnews/realtime/buses/255__WEB.pdfSo now both Clapham Common and Balham town centre will have three different bus routes to Streatham, but all departing from different stops. Also it seems strange that the map notes the location of the new Tesco in Streatham yet not the Sainbury's in Balham where the route starts/ends nor the large one in Streatham it also passes.

The new timetable on the route is odd in that the first and last buses are only scheduled to run between Streatham Hill and Pollards Hill. Any reason for this?

I bet you that people who live on that road didn't want that bus route 255 go there before 6am and after 12.30am! lol.

The new timetable on the route is odd in that the first and last buses are only scheduled to run between Streatham Hill and Pollards Hill. Any reason for this? Moz There was an issue raised by residents on the extension about vehicle noise early morning / late night. TfL have therefore decided to operate only between 0600 and 0030 on the extension. This is why the "extreme" journeys don't run beyond Streatham Hill. It is mentioned in the consultation response. Inevitably there will be complaints in the near future as to why first and last buses do NOT serve the extension. I think this is called "you can't win" syndrome.

Mind me to ask where did you find this come from? I can't find anywhere on the TfL website. It was sent by email. It was signed as being from the "head of consultation delivery" so I guess it was sent to anyone who responded to one of the consultations. This is all the email said: I am writing to let you know that from Saturday 1 March, bus route 255 will be extended.
The route will continue from Streatham Hill to Balham Station and will run via Sternhold Avenue, Thornton Avenue, Emmanuel Road, Radbourne Road, Weir Road, Old Devonshire Road and Balham High Road.

Peter Bradley Head of Consultation DeliveryUsually, they send the leaflets to everyone who lives along the new extension or new route if one is being created - I got one through my door when the 415 first began.

Usually, they send the leaflets to everyone who lives along the new extension or new route if one is being created - I got one through my door when the 415 first began. I live just off the High Road and have never received anything posted for any local service change, maybe it is just for new routes? The other day I was walking down the part of Balham High Road that would be on the extension and did check the stops for news but did not see anything,, so they have left it quite late to officially confirm it is happening. It will be interesting to compare how long the new route takes to get to St Leonard's by avoiding Tooting Bec Gardens. The other day the 249 I came back on was stationary there for about five minutes before reaching the bus stop. With the 255 having the same daytime frequency it may be a better option, and you can more easily cross Station Road for a 315 than you can with the High Road stops.
