I would love to launch a fund to preserve at least one unit but that wont happen will it. No. Probably because the LTM have already reserved a DM and have been given the option to take a 4 car unit if they wish.

When I first heard about the A-stock being withdrawn, I was annoyed. But, I don't think we would get anywhere if nothing was updated. Sure, it would be nice if they kept the A-stock, but as they get older the will probably get a lot more expensive to maintain. They a pretty old, especially if they are as old as my parents! From the outside, the new stock looks good, but I really hope the interior doesn't have facing seats like the publicity photos showed. Its a very long line, so it would make sense to have seats like main line trains. The Met is very different from the other Underground lines, so I hope TfL take this into consideration.

No problem Alex. And the seats are awful at the moment.

Here are some pictures of one of the S-stocks on the Metropolitain- on a 'maiden voyage'. Exterior: londonbuspics.fotopic.net/p66260105.htmlInterior: londonbuspics.fotopic.net/p66260084.htmlI think the exterior looks great. I think thats what the modern version of the A-stock should look like. The interior on the other hand, I hate! Having the mixed seating arranged like that looks messy, and the seats themselves look small and uncomfortable. Must be especially uncomfortable if your travelling all the way from Amersham to London! Although, it is time the A-stock should be replaced, no matter how great I think they are. Was riding one the other day, and they do sound like they are on their last legs! I'm pleased TFL kept them on this long, seeing as they are half a century old now!

I was on board this maiden S stock run and contrary to popular belief, the seats do have quite a bit of padding (for extra comfort, try the tip up seats).
I do agree with the comments regarding the odd seat layout, I feel it should be all 2 by 2 (like a mainline train) due to the distances involved on some journeys. Personally I prefer sitting forwards rather than sideways.
The ride quality of the S stock is very good, compared with the bangs and clunks of the A stock when they run over the rail joints and also the S stock has no d*mn noisy compressor... the A stock is also very sluggish, seems an age to pick up speed out of a station, the S stock is much better in this respect.
In contrast with others on here, I do not like the A stocks due to the reasons above and if I can get a Chiltern to my destination I do!
Visually, the S stock is vinyled in LU livery (not painted) and before the vinyl is applied, they are painted all over black! Lets hope the S stock entry into service is less problematic then it's Vic line siblings...

Remids me of a Class 378 on the newly opened East London Line, and that was way better than this

Looks like I'll have to be really lucky if I manage to run into one of these at Wembley Park.

Its horrible, I feel sorry for Met Line users, now they have cattle trucks AS long as they only use them on the Hmmersmith trips should be ok. They are not really suitable for the long trips from Baker Street though

I should also add that when sufficeint S stocks are in service on the Met, the 4 coach Chesham shuttle service will also cease with Chesham recieving through trains from Baker Street all day.
This is becuase the S stock is one whole 8 coach train (not like the present A stocks which are two 4 coach units coupled up) thus will not fit in the bay platform at Chalfont.
The current service pattern of 6tph (4 Met and 2 Chiltern) to Amersham plus the 2 tph Chesham shuttle will become 4tph to Amersham (2 Met and 2 Chiltern) and 2tph through to Chesham.

So Amersham drop down from 6tph to 4tph. Now THAT'S what I call progress! Agreed, the bay platform at Chalfont is no longer suitable, but they could have run a 2tph 'shuttle' from Chesham to Watford, via the north curve!

Had a bit of a nightmare on the Met this morning!
1st - Had I'd known the Uxbridge branch was only running to Harrow, I'd of gone from West Drayton (Partially my fault as I never look at the notices at Uxb)
2nd - Got on another at Harrow, which was only running to Wembley Park as it was defective. God knows what was wrong with it as the driver had her flying between Harrow and Wembley!!
3rd - Caught the next train after the defective one left the platform, all ok till we left Finchley Road, a little while into the tunnel, we stopped and the driver came over the PA announcing that there were muliple signal failures between here and Baker St. Sat around for a while before the driver told everyone to sit down if they could or hold on tight as we'd feel some jolts! Before we proceded to hit the next 3(I think) tripcocks. The look on some peoples faces were horrified as we shuddered to a halt!
