I'm with Jack - some of us do stop for lights/zebra crossings and are courteous to over road users. I've waved the bus on many times when coming behind it and his indicator goes on or if I am alongside I will usually (if safe to do so) give the bus an 'after you' motion and drop back (and in) as the bus pulls away. Hell, I even slow down (and have stopped) if I see a bus ahead of me at a stop as I would rather let it be in front of me rather than have it behind and delay it! However I was nearly knocked down on Monday only this week by white van man coming from behind me and turning left as I was trying to go straight on - he was right alongside me and just turned - I had to slam my brakes on and steer into the curb or he would have had me under his van. It is that sort of incident that does make me think 'you know, going past that turn tomorrow (which is a 'rat run' - I am going to drift over a little and 'block' the lane so sh*tc**ts can't pull moves like that until I am passed that turning.... ....and/or invest in a helmet cam to record some of these things - like the incident I described with the van, could I report that to the Police? Would they follow it up if the reg. number of the van could be read?

@ Marlon101 - I've gone back and checked what Leon Daniels said. He said that the production company had full editorial control. He also said TfL had no issues with the 343 featuring because it was "good television". I guess the "full editorial control" point is there to counter the accusations that it was a load of old fluff to "promote TfL and its demands for cash". Nonetheless the general "feel" of the series has been to show that what TfL does is essential and against a background of increasing demand and threatend government cuts. The timing of the shows has been, let's say, "convenient". Yes people have moaned about various things, as you'd expect if you interview the public and staff, but there has been no rigorous critique of anything such as why congestion is so horrendous, why bus improvements aren't funded, why road maintenance is done how it is, why TfL spends so much money on enforcement, why Cycle Superhighways aren't "super". While such critiques might not make for exciting television I do think the millions of people who use TfL's networks deserve a bit more debate and transparency about just what is or is not going on.
On the cycling front I broadly agree with you about the behavioural point. However I think there will only be a real breakthrough when most drivers are also people who cycle. They then understand the need to leave space etc. That's a generation or two away. The immediate problem we have is that it has taken 2 decades to get anything resembling "infrastructure" on the streets for cyclists. In that time far too many people have been killed or badly injured and "radicalism" has grown out of those deaths plus a view that many other countries "have it right" and we do not. On that basic point they're correct. I understand why people really object to something like Critical Mass but I also understand why hundreds or thousands of cyclists opt to go on it.
The Mayor's policies are slowly being dragged into the 21st Century through pressure - it is just a crying shame that Boris, a cyclist!, scrapped the London Cycle Network plans and frittered away years and millions of pounds on crappy blue lanes and signs which anyone with a moderate knowledge of cycle priority could have told him were useless. In fact they're worse than useless because people are encouraged to ride on the CS routes but are unaware of how dangerous they are! That's bordering on criminal negligence on the part of those promoting these schemes. The Aldgate incident was at a junction where the CS painted lane routes cyclists on to the same lane as left turning traffic! TfL were warned, in writing, that the junction was unsafe. I have not heard whether or how TfL have responded to those statements. The Mayor has overpromised, overpromoted and under delivered on cycling. He is at real risk of having achieved very little by the time we get to 2016 which will be a waste of 8 years.
Sorry if I have somewhat digressed away from buses in this discussion. I hope group members won't be too disappointed.

Maybe they should get the Sinclair C5 put back into production - electric motor and pedal power with headlights, brake lights, indicators and a 'vehicle'-ish form....everyone should be happy

I'll respond to Snoggle fully tomorrow but a quick point on the cyclists and my anti-cyclist posts. I am aware I am being particularly anti-cyclist. I am a reasonable person, I'm also young (malleable), MA educated and a teacher so (allegedly ) intelligent. I know not all cyclists are bad. I just can't help feeling an irrational disliking of them and tendency to not feel bad about making generaliations (poor form for a historian!) This needs to change, which is what I was hoping that I was hinting at in my post. Drivers are probably like me and many of those who wrong you cyclists are much much worse. It's a very 'us' and 'them' situation and I think that culture is damaging, its how i've become anti-cyclist, exacerbated by negative experiences as a pedestrian with cyclists no doubt fuelled by their own negative road experiences. Its a shame that such entrenched attitudes towards fellow road users exist as it is this which leads to a poor sharing of space and these terrible accidents!

any one got a clue when number 6 is on just checked the tv listings on the TiVo box and its not on in the next 2 weeeks I'm told that due to a "legal issue" the next episode is not ready for broadcast. I can't say too much on here for obvious reasons, but the issue is not a negative one. On a brighter note, I'm told the final programme may be broadcast in 2 parts (ie, possibility of an extra episode seven!).

Any updates on when the last episode(s) will be? Or have I missed it? This is from the BBC's website page for The Route Masters. "There's still one more episode of The Route Masters to air. We don't have a date at present but will update the page as soon as we get more information."

Any updates on when the last episode(s) will be? Or have I missed it? Still to be a later date as far as I know, some sort of legal issue - you've definitely not missed it though.

Following a question on the London's Transport Yahoo Group Leon Daniels has said the legal issue has been resolved. TfL are to see Episode 6 shortly (I assume they have to watch / review it) and then there will be a move to get it broadcast. Therefore keep your eyes open on The Route Masters page on the BBC TV website for confirmation as to the broadcast date.

Based on a post to Railforums the sixth episode is due for broadcast on 30 Jan 2014 at 2100 (this is subject to confirmation / alteration) on I guess BBC2 (not stated in the post). The info is based on an E Mail reply from the BBC to the person who posted on Railforums so the source looks good. No info on what the episode is about and the BBC have yet to update the programme's website to reflect the new broadcast date.

Amended date and time for episode 6 to conclude the series - 2 Feb 2014 at 2200 on BBC 2 Radio Times linkAs it is about crime on the transport network I wonder if there was a prosecution or similar that caused the delay or concerns about the coverage possibly wrongly portraying the actions of individuals?
