As we've had a couple of proposals for very long and probably unmanagable extensions on the forum, I propose a thread to post short or "round-the-corner" extensions. These would be extensions which probably wouldn't account for more than about 10 minutes running time maximum, and therefore wouldn't have huge costs or impacts upon reliability. I'll start off by proposing a couple - - 205 Bow Church - Stratford City, via Stratford High Street, Warton Road, Montfitchet Road, Stratford City Bus Station. Based on D8 timetable, would take approximately 8 minutes.
- 453 Deptford - Lewisham, via Brookmill Road, Thurston Road, Loampit Vale, Molesworth Street. Based on 47 timetable would take approximately 6 minutes.
All timings are based approximately on peak running time as derived from timetables listed on londonbusroutes.net. A small comment about the 205 idea. I wonder if the 8 minute run time is actually achieveable nowadays. There has been so much mucking around at Bow Roundabout and then the impact of the new cycle lanes on Stratford High Street that I suspect run times have gone out of the window. TfL's own case for the Cycle Superhighway extension predicted a slowing down of bus routes over that section.

I'll get shot for this and it's slightly over the 10 minutes that 'MrEdd' used but I'd suggest an extension of the 57 to Brixton via Brixton Hill. Buses are often quite busy along Brixton despite Brixton Hill being served by 8 daytime routes & the 57 isn't as busy as it trundles through Streatham & Streatham Hill. It would also give new links between Brixton & Wimbledon/Colliers Wood/Kingston. The 255 would then take over the 57 between Streatham Hill & Clapham Park before latching onto the proposed extension to Balham via Poynders Road, Clarence Avenue and onto Weir Road.
According to londonbusroutes.net, it's around 11 minutes between Brixton & Streatham Hill during peaks.

A couple of ideas.
The W14 from Leyton ASDA to Stratford City. Probably achieveable with 1 extra bus.
Extend the 274 from Angel to Old Street to give a cross Islington link, remove some interchange traffic from the Angel area and link to "Silicon City" at Old Street. Two buses should be enough.
Extend the 135 from Old Street to Farringdon / Clerkenwell Green to bolster capacity along Old St and serve the rail "megahub" when Crossrail and Thameslink fully open in a few years time. Two buses should be sufficient but traffic congestion can be a nightmare through Clerkenwell.
And on the same theme there are two accidental "round the corner" links that have proved popular - both in Walthamstow. They are the W11 routed via the Bell Corner and the W15 via Blackhorse Road. I use the W11 a lot now as it is so convenient for my local trips and a decent number of people use the new links and also make same stop interchanges with the 123. The W15 also seems to pick up lots of people at Blackhorse Rd in both directions and gives people from Higham Hill a quick link to the tube and NR at St James St. It will be interesting to see what TfL do when Network Rail complete the bridge repairs on Palmerston Road - scheduled for some time in 2014.
EXTRA idea - extend the 394 down Copenhagen St to York Way and into the Kings Cross Railway Lands when this area is more developed than at present. Helps improve access to this new employment and leisure area. Probably 2 extra buses.

Extend route 395 from Harrow to Northwick Park Hospital, via College Road, Station Road, Gayton Road, Sheepcote Road and Watford Road. Based on the H9/H10 timetable it should around take 5-7 minutes. To link South Harrow and Bessborough Road with Northwick Park Hospital.

Like Vjaska, mine is slightly longer than just 'round the corner'
I'd extend the U1 from West Drayton Station to Heathrow Terminal 5. Via the 350 to the Hatch Lane/Colnbrook By-Pass junction, the via the 423 route through Longford Village to Terminal 5. I'd estimate that it'd add about 12-15 to the timetable. This would create links for direct travel into Terminal 5 from Uxbridge, Hillingdon, Brunel University & Hillingdon Hospital. Create a direct link from towns in the north of the Borough such as Ruislip and Ickenham into Heathrow and a link for the village of Longford into Uxbridge and Hillingdon Hospital (not something they've had since the 223 and it's 3 journeys each way, per day in the 80's)

A few from me:
Extend the R68 to West Moseley, added journey time would be 10-12 minutes, could be done with two extra buses, this creates more links to West Molsey, only the 411 goes there.
Extend two of the current high-frequency routes serving Heathrow Central to Terminal 5; one via route N9 routing, and another via Terminal 4 via 555 and then to T5 via 482/490
337 to Manor Circus via route 493. Again would about 10-12 mins on the running time, so this would need about 3-4 buses to achieve this
One that I've (and others) have suggested is extended either E2 or E8 to Hounslow, as there's no direct bus from Hounslow to Ealing. Adds about 10 mins to running time. E8 would be a better choice for this as its shorter.
235 to Hampton Station, creating a direct bus from Hampton to Feltham, and also assists 216 between Sunbury and Hampton, and makes use of one of the redundant bus stands at Hampton Station. Two buses (double deckers preferably) should do.

Can't see BAA being happy with the TfL routes taking demand from their Heathrow Express services between T123 and either T4 or T5, hence why there are almost no such links already existing (only the half-hourly 441/555 which are hardly attractive to the more frequent Heathrow Express services). No need for the 337 to Manor Circus, and looks like too many additional buses are needed to achieve such a link. Agree a lot with the huge missing link between Hounslow and Ealing, time closer to 15 minutes during peaks though I think.

My vote would go to the 291 being extended to Blackheath Village via 178 routing to sun in the sands and then 89 into Blackheath Village and terminate on the 386 stand.

263 to Potters Bar Station Or the 234, since it's shorter (I think) and it goes through most of Barnet High St. instead of Wood Lane towards the hospital. The 263 would be nicer though, since it's a DD route. It'd be nice to get to Barnet paying £1 less... And it would be extra handy for me to get from home-home to uni-home! TfL... please do this! Then again, the 84 is a nice break from the iBus lady

397 extended from Crooked Billet to Whipps Cross via Wadham Rd, Hale End Rd, Forest Rd, Winsbeach Rd, Fyfield Road, Wood St, Whipps Cross. Probably need 2 buses on a x30 headway. Would restore some of the links when the 144 was withdrawn years ago from the Walthamstow to Ilford section.
Extend the 357 from Chingford Hatch to Woodford Green. Probably need 1 bus and would give a regular service over the 657 corridor from the Hatch to Woodford. The 657 could probably be withdrawn as a result thereby providing the peak time bus for the extension. Obviously there'd be a fuel and drivers wages cost.

Extend route 129 to Peckham (from Greenwich) via Creek Road, Evelyn Street, Grinstead Road, Surrey Canal Road, Ilderton Road, Old Kent Road, Asylum Road and Queens Road. This can provide a new link between Deptford (Evelyn Street end) and Peckham rather people having to go to Surrey Quays and take 381 or P12.
Also extend route 415 to Surrey Canal Road (from Elephant & Castle) via Bricklayers Arms, Old Kent Road, Rotherhithe New Road/Verney Road, South Bermondsey Station and Ilderton Road. This can make the route more useful and provide a link between Brixton and Old Kent Road rather people having to change at Elephant or Peckham.

Extend Route 21 from Newington Green to Stoke Newington. Would probably make the route too long but I think would provide a great link from South London to North London.
Extend Route 436 to Paddington Basin and curtail the 159 to Marble Arch.
Extend Route 353 to New Addington via the T32 and withdraw the T32. Transfer Route 359 to MB using 28 from the 464 School journey.
Merge the 415 & 432 and extend to Elmers End.
