For those of you that may be interested, NB4L's LT9 and LT10 at Holloway have been fitted with free wifi for an unspecified trial period.
Both buses have also had a special announcement added on the iBus telling passengers about this too. Enjoy!

I think buy the time this becomes widespread most people will have generous data allowances on there phones.

Indeed - I just would rather money be spent elsewhere - I know it probably would have sponsorship but still think it's fairly pointless as more journeys are short hop in London.

Personally, I don't mind whether we get it or not. 3G is useless in certain areas on certain carriers so Wifi may actually appeal to some.

Personally, I don't mind whether we get it or not. 3G is useless in certain areas on certain carriers so Wifi may actually appeal to some. It would indeed be useful in some of the more 'rural' areas/roads of London, for instance the Hampton Court Road often has a '1G' (GPRS) or 2G (EDGE) signal and often has no signal at all, but then if a driver travels quickly then the change is barely noticeable. I agree with @dan in that the money should be spent on more important things (i.e. providing a more comfortable and reliable service or even the 'seat map' and LCD info(tainment) screen on test at the moment, rather than putting WiFi on buses) although in the short term at least might bolster passenger numbers slightly (I guess there will be a free trial period a la Tube WiFi). Sponsorship is likely too, possibly with Virgin Media (given that they've sponsored free WiFi on the Tube, and is indeed available to Virgin, EE and Vodafone (and I think O2) customers IIRC)

Whole routes could be sponsored ... That would bring in money.

Whole routes could be sponsored ... That would bring in money. "This 148 bus is brought to you by McDonalds" Please no. We already have a litany of botched sponsorship contracts with TfL. In my opinion there are very real risks of the transport network being compromised in order to meet the demands of sponsors. I've seen all these bright ideas before and they usually founder because TfL are so desperate for the money that they fall over themselves to accommodate what really isn't sensible. They've admitted as much this morning to the London Assembly Business Committee. The transport network is there to transport people not to be one great big moving billboard and to bombard people with messages they don't necessarily want. We also have the issue of a long heritage of design and branding on London's transport network. You can argue about how how well it has been managed in recent years but I certainly don't want my local bus routes sponsored by a fast food chain or a bank or a supermarket. It's bad enough having all over advert buses but can you imagine bus stops, bus stations and the interior of buses being plastered with themed adverts for <bleep> <bleep> Ronald McDonald? Ugh. The ethos that Roger French employed in Brighton of only advertising B&H's own services on its vehicles was the right approach. Ironically TfL actually do next to no marketing of their own services but are happy to flog space to anyone else to plaster stations, cable cars, bikes and buses.

But why would I want to pay Richard Branson to use wifi in a tube station? My tax money is already paying to have wifi enabled on TFL services so it should be available to passengers that are willing to use it. Virgin Group earns billions, there's no point on charging people to use the wifi service as it should be free for all. I think websites like social media, TFL, travel, maps...etc should be free because it would benefit passengers to sort out the meet up, directions on where you need to go...etc. Passengers got to remember this, this is a station, not a underground park with wifi, they will end up paying for a maximum fare on their oyster for overstaying. What more TFL wants?

What more TFL wants? Possible solutions to your problems: 1 Don't use the Wifi on London Underground 2 Join a mainstream network 3 Get a friend that is on a mainstream network to turn his personal Hotspot on and then connect to that 5 Get a Jet pack and just 3G 4 I'm not very good at counting am I Think of it this way. When you buy a cake, you pay something for it, right? Why? Because the person who made the cake has put work into it. Why would they make a cake if they knew they would get nothing out of it? Even if all the ingredients they needed to make the cake were free, they still had to put their time and effort into it. If I asked you to come to my house and clean the entire thing from top to bottom every single day for the next two years and gave you nothing for it, would you do it? No. If everything was free, nothing would be produced, no one would work and basically all the economies would collapse the world would be, in one word, screwed. I recommend that you go out and get yourself a part time job. You'll understand the importance of money and why we pay for things.

But like in the States, there are free wifi as advertised, you don't end up having to pay again to use their service. But instead its just free for anyone to access to the internet. But with my tax money going to TFL and invest on their projects like wifi on underground, it should be free and have limited access so you don't have commuters spending hours watching YouTube on a tube station bench. TFL is owned by the people for the people so wifi on the underground should be free and not for giving money away to private corporations to make their own profit, that's what socialism is about. Yes I am not the only person on the planet to hunt for a job, I am just basically putting in my ideas on what TFL should be doing to benefit passengers rather then connect a wifi only to see propaganda from Virgin media and making people pay to use the whole of the internet. I am not turning this discussion into a political debate, Now it's time that we go back to topic and talk about this somewhere else.
