The 36's reliability isn't really a growing concern to be honest, it's probably the most reliable route running out of NX at the moment. The only real issue with the 36 is when you get excessive delays on the route, like through the oval this morning with up the 50 min delays. But us regular 36 controllers do make use of the curtailments and light running options we have (like run every other but light to Vauxhall via old Kent road and Kennington lane, which was used this morning) so that despite the delays, a decent level of service is maintained throughout the route. The 436 is struggling a bit due to the works at Lewisham, so much so that a spare bus is employed on the route mostly working between NX and Hyde Park Corner. Imagine what fun you will have when you've got works at Lewisham, Elephant, Oval, Vauxhall, Vauxhall Bridge, Victoria and Hyde Park Corner - all due within the next few months. While not doubting the skills of the controllers that looks like a very big set of problems to deal with. I understand the jams were from Oval to New Cross this morning which, to be frank, is just ridiculous. We'll end up with jams from Victoria from New Cross pretty soon.

I agree the 36 is reliable and run well, being a regular user I can always rely on it. It's great to hear that from a reliable source like yourself

It'll be the end of civilization as we know it, and of course it's all Boris's fault as usual There are delays through Vauxhall this morning following an earlier RTA, and I must say that in my experience the 21 and 36 are both very well run

The simple point is that the road network is struggling to cope - anyone can see that. Undertaking a massive series of road works in a relatively confined area just to meet a political deadline (April 2016) is not very sensible. On the basis that segregated cycle lanes have cross party support there is no reason at all to concentrate so much work into such a short time. The work could be phased to cause less disruption and to straddle the Mayoral Election as happens with a lot of work on the tube - it's deemed to be worthwhile so it carries on regardless of who is in charge.

Well all is not lost!! With the current and forthcoming works in mind the 36 and 436 are both getting new emergency schedules which will go live on Sat 16th.
The 36 gets a PVR increase of 2 buses on all days (M-F PVR will be 36 = NX 1 to 36, NX 36 will be the 171 cross link bus becoming NX76 in the afternoon)
The 436 also gets a PVR increase of 2 buses on all days plus the PAP spare bus will still be used. (M-F PVR will be 33 + PAP extra = NX301 to 333 + 436)
