Rail tickets are being accepted today (Saturday 14th January) for travel between Elmers End/Beckenham Junction and East Croydon, due to power supply failure on Southeastern's Hayes line which is expected to last until at least midday. Rail tickets are also being accepted on local buses and on Govia Thameslink services between East Croydon and London Bridge.

From latest TfL commissioners report (page 22) Trams rolling stock replacement programme Our rolling stock replacement programme will replace the life-expired Bombardier CR4000 trams, which are becoming less reliable and have one of the lowest states of good repair categorisations across our fleets. Following detailed consideration of the options, it was decided that the best value-for-money option to address these problems was to replace the CR4000 trams. The programme is likely to start procurement activities in late 2023. However, the full funding for replacement trams, alongside other rolling stock, has not yet been established. board.tfl.gov.uk/documents/s19828/Commissioners%20Report%20March%202023.pdf

However TfL needs funding in order to procure their replacements and take delivery for trial running well before then. The reliability of the CR4000s has declined sharply of late, and nearly one in ten Tramlink journeys are being cancelled on some days due to a shortage of serviceable trams. The situation is exacerbated by problems with the supply chain for spare parts, and a shortage of maintenance staff at the Depot.

Seems the shortage of trams has hit crisis point, with the suspension of the New Addington and Elmers End branches. TfL website certainly saying for the whole of this weekend. But sounds like it could be a bit longer term issue.
Extra buses are being quoted as operating on the Routes 64, 289 and 466 between 1200 and 2000 on both days (Sat/Sun).

A pretty sorry state of affairs really, the 466 has a lot of spare capacity anyway but of course only goes to Addington Village so I suspect most people will use the 64.

Extra buses are also working on these routes at peak times. Also a sighting of an EnsignBus vehicle in New Addington has been reported.

A quick glance at London Vehicle Finder suggests that a significant proportion (16 or so) of the trams which were unavailable today were in use as recently as yesterday evening, and only one of the Variobahns is currently in service.
Therefore I'm wondering whether this is a result of anything more specific than the CR4000 fleet's reliability issues?

There was ensign bus extras on the 466 and I think I spotted and LT on the 64. Yes LT168 on the 64 was reported in the turns and obs section. I would have thought it would be better to operate a RRS rather than extras on the 64 and 466? Presumably Lloyd Park and Coombe Lane are unserved? It seems it is possible to operate an evening service to New Addington when the Wimbledon to Beckenham Junction service reduces.
