A direct quote from Railforums UK. Poster is someone called "Greatkingrat". Looks interesting and fits in with the slow but steady build up of trains on test during the day. Obviously we must wait to see what actually happens!! Looks like the plan is for a Tuesday start www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/L61959/2019/05/28/advancedFingers Crossed all goes well and the Goblin finally gets a sane frequency back That would be great news. A wonderful present to the poor long suffering passengers after the Bank Holiday.
I really hope this is true and comes about.

Have read elsewhere that it is a quiet phased introduction, initially some of the extra trains won’t even be advertised in advance, will just run between the half hourly service. Being a phased introduction means it will be a lottery for a while as to if next train is upto 15 or 30 minutes away. Cannot find a definitive date full 15 minute service resumes by

I have seen elsewhere that the 06:33 is a 378 not a 710 The current timetable using 378s has departures off Barking at 03 and 33 and Gospel Oak at 20 and 50 on Mondays to Fridays. New live departures at 18 or 48 off Barking and G Oak at 05 or 35 are likely to be 710s in any enhanced timetable. Given the roundtrip time is 90 mins this "rule" will hold provided there are no in service failures which require the service to be rescheduled at short notice. I assume the driver rosters are being set up to ensure only trained drivers are allocated to 710s until such time as the full establishment is trained.

According to a new post on District Dave forum - from an Overground driver - it looks like two class 710s will come into passenger service on either Tues / Wed next week alongside the 378s. This almost restores the x15 headway but there will still be some thirty minute gaps. Obviously a modest start as the aim has to be get all 8 trains into use to allow the 378s to be released. Departure timings are on this post ---> districtdavesforum.co.uk/post/479641 As predicted they fill in 05 and 35 departures ex Gospel Oak and 18 and 48 ex Barking. The usual words of caution about none of this being guaranteed apply.

If this goes well it shouldn't be long until a third 710 can be introduced and the 15 minute service restored. A little confused why the start is with two 710s, I would have expected either one to start matters off, or three to provide a 15 minute service.
If all goes well, won't be too long before the 378s can be taken off the line.

If all goes well, won't be too long before the 378s can be taken off the line. I suspect it is to do with loading and testing the most recent set of software. That has been done to one train for testing purposes and it passed. It will obviously have to be loaded to further trains and verified. My guess is that only two trains will be ready by Tues / Wed next week but others will follow on progressively - assuming they've achieved their fault free mileage. I suspect a slow but steady approach with not much initial fanfare is what we will see solely because as soon as you put passengers on new trains new faults will emerge. No point in crowing about new trains if they conk out and passengers still effectively have a 30 min service. Arriva also still need 710s to keep training drivers so I expect some empty workings will continue but we'll see. I do agree, though, that we are hopefully at a positive point in a very long and tiresome saga.

A little update on the 710s: Two will run in passenger service on Wednesday the Thunderbird will go at the end of the week and the 378s will go in June Is that this Wednesday (22 May). Assuming there are no issues (big if, I know), will they be in service all day, just daytime, just peak hours, or just morning peak?

The extra journeys are now showing in Realtimetrains. They are easily identified with a 2Gxx train ID rather than the normal 2Jxx. They run from around 0700 to 2200. Next weekend is showing as x15 minute service but I rather suspect that will change between now and then.

Once enough 710s are in service on the Barking line to run a full 4tph, perhaps some of the 378s will begin to be released back to the Watford line. This would allow the 4tph timetable to be implemented on the Watford line as soon as possible using 378s, prior to the 710s being available on this route. Then when 710s enter service on the Watford line, refurbishment of the 378s can resume.

Then when 710s enter service on the Watford line, refurbishment of the 378s can resume. I doubt the 378s will go on the Watford route. Bombardier really need the test paths on DC tracks to build enough test run data to ensure the trains are debugged and they can then get the ORR approval for DC operation. Given there are trains cancelled every day on the NLL / WLL at the moment I suspect Arriva and Bombardier will just want the 4 cars re-extended to 5 cars and then be part of the spares float for the NLL. Once the maintenance backlog is caught up then the refurbs may well restart. The impetus for the Watford Line will be to get 710s on that service ASAP as that really eases availability issues in the 378 fleet. TfL and Arriva have 7 months to get the NLL / Watford fleet sorted to allow enhanced timetables to kick in this coming December (assuming the changes haven't been postponed). Alongside that then getting 710s onto West Anglia will also be a priority.
