Seeing that there's a possibility that GAL's sole BCI tri-axle won't be out anytime soon what routes can I catch one of Ensign's on? not out yet as you can see hereBut they have several, unless I’m missing something really obvious?

Curious note in this month's TLB that the annual Ensign running day in December has been cancelled due to 'adverse legislation'. Anyone know what this is referring to?
EDITED TO ADD: Ensign has tweeted to clarify that they have *not* announced a cancellation but there are issues with Bus Open Data that they are trying to resolve.

No idea but quite sad to hear as it’s an event I always look forward to - my only guess is Lakeside maybe finally snapped about all the enthusiasts hanging around the bus station as there apparently have been complaints in the past

www.route-one.net/features/1000-hybrids-where-are-they-now/Reading through the article above from 2019. Interesting part was by the comments from Ensign. Isn't it bizzare that operators in counties outside London continue to order Diesel as new buses? Would have thought they would have moved to Hybrid or Electric by now.

No it isn't bizarre, hybrids only offer decent savings when used in the right environment such as in a city choked with traffic hence why London brought loads. Outside of London, many hybrids that were ordered didn't meet the same requirements and the cost of replacing batteries didn't add up so it made sense to convert those to diesel and go back to ordering diesels Electric vehicles have been ordered by a number of operators outside of London and this will continue to grow over the years

With hybrids at Euro6, the environmental benefit at tailpipe, was quickly found to no longer outweigh the whole life benefit from production to disposal, hence so few manufacturers making hybrids these days. The straight choice these days is diesel and electric (both battery and fuel cell) ... most of the times it comes down to capital requirementts required to purchase and get operational an electric operation, that is many times that of a diesel operation. Outside of London, take-up has generally been limited to where funding is provided to cover these extra costs.

I don't know about the older B5L's in London that Arriva/Go Ahead have but the 7900s First Essex have are in Diesel mode now everytime I've been on one , seems to me like "Smart hybrids" are the way forward when you take into account cost of Electric vehicles and Battery replacement costs upfront , unrelated but it will be interesting to see what happens with a lot of Plant on building sites etc i.e Cranes , Skip lorrys , Cement Mixers most building sites nigh on everything runs from Diesel not just due to efficiency but power also .

Guess it is not straight forward

Ensign have (rightly) had enough of the Juststopoil protestors let's hope the government step in A lot of people have had enough of it, it's costing hauliers an astronomical amount of money and that's all going to be passed onto the consumer. I guess Ensign have little choice but to suspend services if it continues.
