Was in Southend today so naturally had a ride on the 68 for a round trip. Pretty much business as usually but the weather was rubbish so passenger numbers not as busy as normal. Sadly no specials out today despite being a bank holiday weekend.
The only difference I have noticed since the sale to First was left staff selling tickets and trying to encourage people to sample the service.

Ensign Volvo B9TL/Wright Gemini 130 has been painted in a green-and-cream heritage livery to mark 20 years of operation of route X80 via the Dartford Crossings. The vehicle made its debut at the Ensignbus Running Day on 2nd December.
The route commenced on 17th January 2004, and was initially a registered positioning service for the Gravesend-Strood rail replacement service that operated whilst Higham and Strood Tunnels* were closed for reconstruction work. After the railway reopened exactly a year later the X80 continued in operation, although its scope has been reduced over the years to ensure the route remains financially viable to operate.
* Higham and Strood Tunnels were originally a single tunnel, part of the Thames and Medway Canal which ran from Strood to Gravesend and opened in 1824. The Canal was not financially successful and in 1844 a single-track railway line was built through the tunnel, partly supported by the towpath and partly supported by wooden stilts in the canal bed! After the South Eastern Railway bought out the Gravesend and Rochester Railway & Canal Company in 1847 the canal was filled in and the line double-tracked. Although over two miles long, the tunnels are dead straight and the light at the other end can be seen clearly.

Ex RATP Streetdeck WH45252 is now with Ensignbus as a filming bus, carrying the fleet number EBS1972 and now has LED blinds similar to those carried by the Stagecoach E400's. This was used in the Doctor Who Christmas Special, the bus blinded as a 94 going to Notting Hill Gate
