Very interesting and it looks like they might be replaced by diesel vehicles as well judging by a comment made by Mr Newman further down the page - would have to guess more BCI deckers given they've taken a liking to them. Are the BCI's only available in Diesel? If they were electric then it could work out better for them. Also, what lengths can the BCI be in UK spec?

I believe they are only available as diesel (the TA on the 12 has a Vantage pack fitted to 'make' it a hybrid) - the MD in the article mentions that diesel gets a dirty name (pardon the pun) and that they still think diesel is the way forward so can't see them purchasing electrics. The BCI has two lengths - 10.8m twin axle & 11.7m tri-axle - Ensign has both variants from memory.

I wish Ensign would take a chance and give Arriva a bit of competition in Gravesend and Dartford. I think a link from Kent to Southend Airport for example would be used.

This was in the Yourbus fleet in Heaner, Derby which ceased trading a month ago Are these for extra services, or are they replacing older buses in Ensign fleet

The X80 often struggles with congestion as it is, and much as that Southend link would be nice, I doubt it would be a money spinner. The only way Ensignbus will compete with Arriva in Kent is if they open a depot in Dartford or somewhere: I see that as most unlikely.

Having to get vehicles and drivers across the Dartford Crossings would be a serious impediment to running reliable services that the public could depend on. Ensign do an excellent job on their own turf and I doubt they would want to risk their reputation, or be drawn into a wasteful bus war.

Another useful connection could be to open a new railway station in the Grays/Purfleet area as an interchange between C2C and HS1 - this would allow rail journeys between Kent and Essex without going into central London.

Ensign could perhaps instead introduce a route from Southend Airport to Tilbury terminal, for ferry connections across the Thames estuary to Gravesend.

Not a bad selection 😃 Sadly Ensignbus Running Days are a thing of the past for me now, as I no longer live in London. I have many happy memories of previous years and the wide variety of vehicles used. One that did evade me was MD60, on two occasions I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. However I did manage to ride it when it was operating extras on the 474 during a DLR strike!
