I'd assume a different route to usual and the driver mistakenly on "auto pilot" thinking mode powered up as normal .

Assuming the driver was on auto pilot, I expect the train was heading for Heathrow.

I guess the train either was changed to go on the line where the disused track is, or went over onto the past lines.
