Just out of interest is the 254 the busier end of the old 253? Yes it is I guess the 253 Euston end has more support from the 29 and 168 plus the Victoria and Piaccdilly lines from Finsbury Park. Despite having separate numbers now, TFL still have both routes at the current freq. I can see the 254 being very busy feeding into Whitechapel Station since Crossrail will be a bit upgrade from the current district and Hammersmith & City. Might even attract people who currently use Bethnal Green Station.

I went to Paddington yesterday and saw the entrance to CrossRail there. The gates were of course locked. It was just a waste of electricity having the lights on and the escalators going down to the platforms before anyone can use them.

I imagine it's in relation to pre-service/periodical checks conducted with all new and existing escalators at trains stations, shopping centres, airports, etc.

I see it time and time again, so many places lights left on un-necessarily then they would be dictating to you to switch lights off in your house etc.

Still a major waste, with the mayor pratting on about emissions and climate change, surely this is extremely polluting. I could understand if they had motion sensors to turn the lights on, but they do not.

Staff do remain at stations even when the last train has gone for security reasons so they wil need to be on.

I really don't think you need all the lights on all the time. Motion sensors could be a solution as could having only some of the lights on, that is a lower level of lighting. Climate change can be mitigated by the generation of 'green' electricity, but until all our electricity is 'green' that isn't good enough. Moreover leaving the lights on means more electricity than otherwise is needed at a time when we are all being urged to reduce our electricity consumption. There is also the question of cost, someone (us!) has to pay for that electricity and let us not forget how over budget Crossrail is.

But if it were auto lights, then it would come on if a train was evacuated or pulled into the platform or detected movement from a human or mouse.

All electrical systems need to be tested before the service commences. No good starting the revenue service and systems failure and the showcase new train service cannot stop at Paddington.

On the bright side, I got to ride on a 315 yesterday. I got the 11:33 from Shenfield to Liverpool St. I also saw a 315 out today on Saturday
