Narrow roads prevent: 382, 384, 395, 398, 631, E6, H2, H3, U10 Weight restriction: 609 (same as 209) What prevents double decks from going onto the 395 and the 398? Narrow roads More specifically tight turns, same for U10 though a DEL has managed this on occasions, somehow

Hi all, I will look through your suggestions tomorrow, I can’t update much at all tonight UNLESS I can get through stuff during the night (sleep has first dibs!) ian raised an interesting point about TfL declaring a route improper for DDs... I think we as a collective can decide if a route can DD over its route so fingers up to them, although I do like the nostalgia of it at least. Bottom line. If a route CAN run DDs, it does NOT make the list, especially if they have run DDs before on current SD ones (unless cosmetic changes to the landscape now prevent DDs) Where trees* are concerned, we can reasonably debate it. TfL ensures trees aren’t an issue when they want to be a non-issue so they would have to be thick branch reasonably capable of causing damage to vehicles to count as a SD only route. Back soon Edit: *same applies to Narrow roads and tight turns, the 297 manages in the Perivale area so any quoted area would have to be good to exclude DDs I think

the E5 route runs with short 8.9 metre buses. I don't know if longer buses can be on the route, it would be amazing to see this and double deckers can't do the route because of tight turns throughout the route, such as the Sussex Road turn in Southall. Also I thought the road that goes underneath the flats on McNair Road in Southall restricted double deckers, but I think they can just make it because the bridge is 14.5 ft, wheras a standard double decker bus is around 14.2 ft. So, they would just fit underneath the flats. I've been on LVF before and seen that when the E5 was with Metroline and First London, there have been rare occasions where a 2 door DE or DML has been on the route, I have never seen them on the route, so if anyone has any pictures of a two door bus on the E5, I'd really love to see them.

The low bridge along Bedford Hill, Balham prevents the 315 from DDs.

A modern full height double decker is 14’6” whilst older full height low floor ones are generally 14’5”. Exceptions to this are full height Arriva ALX400’s between 52 reg & 55 reg which are 14’3”, London United’s 56 reg SP’s which I can’t remember the height of & Omnidekkas (except the 405’s 07 reg examples) which, from memory, are 13’10”.

Thanks for the facts and figures!! So as a rule can we say that only bridges with a minimum 14’6 clearance be suitable for deckers? Keeps it uniform

347, 646 and 648 - again that low bridge at Cranham. 499 actually CAN run a DD - it was Arriva's 375 back in the day - blast me missing that! Someone wanted elaboration on the 201 - I said it goes under a low bridge in Tulse Hill. The one notoriously hit by lorries. As for R routes, R4 goes under a low bridge and has narrow roads, so does R7; R1 narrow roads, same for R3, R5/10 - very narrow roads, R8 - very narrow country lanes, R6 - small roads. R2 and R11 could take one at a push. A R9 sees nearly everything at MB lol.

So peeps, who is going to put me out of my misery on 193, 233 and 299? If worst comes to worst I’ll scrawl through to see what on the routes might cause issues. But would probably have to be Gmaps as I can’t think what sites show such detailed information on the actual requirements for SD routes and locations change and sometimes maps don’t reflect that. So don’t think I’m being lazy, I’m just picking more knowledgeable brains! 233 has used d/d in the past, but until they cut trees back on the Northview Estate in Swanley, it cannot use double deckers again.

Years ago (March 2013) I did go on DML44116 from The Green to Toplocks Estate, and we had almost no issues. We did meet another E5 on the left to Hunt Road but luckily there was enough space to turn. Sadly I didn't manage to take a photo as it drove off without taking stand time, which was annoying as I also wanted to go on it in the return direction to see how it managed that right at Featherstone Road where the one-way bit ends looks extremely right even with the tiny buses, and I'd also have loved to see how Golf Links Estate managed with a long bus.

W5: low bridge on Stanhope Road, tight turns across the route, and narrow roads between Crouch End - Harringay.
