The suggestion of a direct route between Crystal Palace and Elmers End is, I think, spot on. It would give a link to the tram so long tantalisingly dangled before the people of the Palace by that arch teaser (I'd use another noun, personally) Boris Johnson when seeking election/re-election as Mayor. I'd forget the 249 or the 432 and extend the 417, that 'forever Norwood' route. Alternatively, extend the 54 up from Elmers End, although I don't believe Beckenham needs further connections to Anerley or Crystal Palace. I don't think Tramlink to Crystal Palace was a viable option, there is a quicker heavy rail link to Croydon and a few improvements to the local bus network would be more realistic for the intermediate area, a direct link to Elmers End and my 432 proposal would give a direct link to the Addiscombe area. The gradients are quite high for one, if the tram were to follow the 468 line of route, there are some punishing hills... I know that part of town from my Ex who lived in Upper Norwood also road infrastructure would be greatly affected for such a long time. Even the impact for fans travelling to Selhurst Park, or just heading to shops in Croydon...

The tram extension was to follow the railway line from the Harrington Road curve up to Crystal Palace - the biggest issue was how to reach the parade from Crystal Palace Station given the station & the parade are situated on vastly different heights.

Not for me !
I'd withdraw the 157 , no I'm not planning to axe it just reroute it via Church Road and South Norwood Hill, extend the 432 from Anerley to Norwood Junction then replacing the 312 to Croydon using the 197 stand and I'd extend the 197 to South Croydon Garage where many go OOS for driver changeovers anyway. A few new links, and no significant ones lost, for very little outlay.
As for the 249 if it really cannot be accommodated in the bus station it would have to continue to Anerley but maybe make it a bit more useful by going the extra mile or so to Elmers End?

The 417 to Elmers End would only work if you can fix its unreliability - despite its relatively short length, it suffers from busy loadings & traffic in particular parts of the route. I’d rather see the 417’s reliability sorted and then extended to Clapham Junction to give assistance to the 35 & 37. The above is partly why I originally came up with idea of the 432 to go to Elmers End via Birkbeck as well as the connection with Tramlink and a more direct link between Elmers End & Crystal Palace compared to the 358.

Low bridge. The 129 would be coming from Perry Hill direction and wouldn't need to go under the low bridge.

Low bridge. Only the 352 would have to go under the bridge. The 129 approaches from the other direction! That bridge is the reason why the 129 wouldn't go through to Grove Park.

Especially in the mornings when the tube isn't running it is packed.

Rerouting the 259 is instead of withdrawing the 349 which some people on here claim is essential even though it's usually carrying little more than fresh air when I see it.

Well 417's reliability could only be fixed if all that traffic was ousted from Crystal Palace town centre It's ridiculous how many cars are there. Why would you go through there if you know you will sit in traffic? -_- All bus drivers are open to letting people off before they reach the Westow Hill bus stop, it's that notorious. It's even busy at 7pm! N137 from Streatham Hill to CP meanwhile can take merely 8 minutes!

what worries me is the speed that they go at to reach cp in 8 mins. : D The bus that pulled it off didn't stop anywhere after S.Hill. Normally they take about 12mins so not much longer!

It's N137s I'm talking about, though I suppose few first 417s of the day fare similarly. And what LT? N137 doesn't run with them. Never had one do the route. They can't do the turns at Westow Hill, failed the route test. Shame, that. N137 uses Ts, and also made use of VLAs till the Green Corridor kicked in. HVs are still fairly uncommon.
