Yesterday (11th Mar) saw the majority of Route 11 (Ocean Terminal - Hyvots Bank) operated by new E400 XLB's. 1075 is seen in some sunshine on Pilrig St.

Lothian announces its next order: m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1988801441242457&id=447400675382549For those without Facebook: As part of a multi-million pound order with Alexander Dennis, eight new Plaxton Leopard coaches will soon provide a significant upgrade to one of Lothian Buses' operating subsidiaries. They will be deployed on growing express routes operated by Lothiancountry into Scotland’s capital city. The new interurban Plaxton Leopard was developed in close collaboration between the operator and manufacturer and is based on the 12.8m model of the versatile coach. It has 49 comfortable seats with three-point seatbelts. A double door in the centre of the vehicle allows large numbers of customers to alight quickly at their destination reducing dwell times at stops and integrates a full wheelchair lift. Wheelchair users travel in a comfortable designated wheelchair bay in the main saloon opposite the centre doors and are secured in a forward facing position using a simple wheelchair and passenger restraint system. The Volvo B8R 4x2 chassis provides a proven and reliable underframe for the interurban Plaxton Leopard. Its clean Euro 6 engine is matched to a ZF EcoLife automatic transmission. A suite of safety features such as an Advanced Emergency Braking System and Lane Departure Warning complete the specification. Richard Hall, Managing Director of Lothian, says: “To give commuters a credible alternative coupled with high levels of customer service means that our investment in these new 49-seat coaches with improved accessibility features has been designed with the customer’s comfort and convenience in mind.” Mark Ballam, Coach Commercial Manager at Alexander Dennis Limited, comments: “Interurban services are a growth market across the country when provided with the right vehicles for this type of operation. In addition to Alexander Dennis’s wide range of specification options for our Enviro buses, the Plaxton range offers purpose-designed models including the new 49-seat Leopard interurban coach.” The first of the new coaches will attend the UK Coach Rally in Blackpool on 6th and 7th of April.

Certainly going to be more attractive than the alternative First services using cast-offs.

An interesting Twitter thread about the new Leopard coaches for Lothian Buses. One of the tweets shows the ingenious design of wheelchair stairlift in operation. A very clever bit of kit.

I rode B8L 1075 on Good Friday. Although nice and spacious, I was shocked that the seat sagged a bit. Ironically, I preferred my previous vehicle, B9TL 1015, ex-Metroline. It has been tastefully refurbished with grey panels, wooden floor and red seats. I think the others have been similarly refurbished.

Does anyone know where tri-axle 1093 is? Has never entered service in Edinburgh. Everything else in the 1063-1124 sequence is in daily use.

Lothian to trial closing bus stops to speed up journeys It seems although aim is to have bus stops around 400m apart (except where they serve specific important buildings), about 20% are only 200m apart so trialling closing some stops. Personally I think trying to speed up journeys is a good idea.
