So route 53 is to be cut back as a day route to county hall with a restatement of N53 to Whitehall. The change appears to be pending but this will release further buses from the fleet which could be used on contract renewal. It's slated for sometime in September.

Would rather it was being extended to Trafalgar Square properly to give it more purpose. County Hall is a pointless terminal and most will get off at Elephant to change.
Maybe of there is an N53 it would run to Trafalgar Square or even Oxo.

I'm sure we'd all rather not have them but some people are a bit more pragmatic about things. I don't agree with this change but I don't think it's confirmed anyway?

I'd rather extend it back to Oxford Circus and abolish the 453, ridiculous curtailing the 53 just short of major traffic objectives.

Must be cheaper, to have one contract, a 24/7 53 Plumstead to Oxford Circus with higher frequency let’s say between Trafalgar Sq to Deptford Bridge.

Maybe of there is an N53 it would run to Trafalgar Square or even Oxo. Depends what the terminal working at County Hall is. During the previous temporary curtailments the first and last stops weren't very useful for St Thomas' Hospital (and frustratingly buses then ran out of service past the hospital entrance). If buses can stop near the hospital they will at least be serving one of the major traffic objectives in the area, and won't go against the supposed plan to improve hospital links.
I agree the N53 should run further into the West End if this plan goes ahead.

Didn't it stand I Lower Marsh when it was temporarily cut back to Lambeth North . Perhaps with county Hall it will stand with the 381.

Maybe there's a game being played between the remaining staff at TfL HQ. The one who can cut back a route to the most pointless terminal just short of the main objective wins: extra points if you can make it as difficult as possible for satisfactory interchange, even more if you can then get the bus to travel out of service past one of the places that passengers might actually want to get to, still better if after all this you've hardly saved any buses directly, because that's not the main aim of your Machiavellian manoeuvres. The 137 cutback to Marble Arch (or, more accurately to an often windswept stop some way south of there) was out in front, but there were other contenders for the honour which have been (temporarily?) thwarted by dastardly Westminster City Council, like the 25 to Holborn Circus. The 242 to St Pauls doesn't count because it's already had the desired effect of making the western end of the route useless. The 53 is now a strong contender, even better if you can re-use the already fairly poor Horse Guard stand for another route from the south, like the 3. The absolute clincher, though, is to select a route effectively not paralleled in any way by a tube service or a reliable and regular train service. Trebles all round!!!

They stood at Lambeth Palace last time from what I remember - first & last stop was at the railway bridge on Westminster Bridge Road by Lower Marsh. I don’t think it can stand with the 341 & 381 at County Hall which is why it ran light to stand at Lambeth Palace where there is a lot of space.

I dont do canteen chat ;-) It's in an area where anyone employed by the operator could find it and therefore it would be considered common knowledge. 8th september is the proposed tbc date but I think it would be later than that. Thanks

I get the feeling its because of the duplication of the 453 but makes me wonder if it may end up at abbey wood station at some point or back to thamesmead even.
