Oh 1980s Night Buses were something else. Only did one night riding on them with friends but still a couple of vivid memories of that night. Being a N2 (I think) at Brixton heading south to somewhere - Crystal Palace possibly. Oh and being at Friern Barnet at eek o'clock in the morning wondering if the bus back to town had gone or not - only hourly back then. Finally getting kicked off a N89 at somewhere like Hanwell and getting a 207 to Uxbridge where we had breakfast in the cafe in the tube station. I remember RMs on the 207 and loooong driver changes, bizarrely by Ealing Hospital rather than Hanwell Garage when I was little... N89 is vaguely familiar too. Remembered the 65 with RMs, took one to Richmond Ice Rink - which never should have closed, the company who demolished it went bust and nothing replaced it so my nearest Ice Rink was Queens Ice in Queensway after that... not bus related I also remember R Stock trains on the District line (which used to run to Hounslow West before the Heathrow extension) I also remember both RM travels on the 65 and 207, the former being for Kew Gardens or Chessington Zoo (as it was called then as it was a lot smaller than now). The latter was a nostalgia ride as it was then the only Routemaster route that ran deep into West London prior to OPO operation in the mid 80s. I also do remember the long periods of time for crew changes on the 207.

I also do remember the long periods of time for crew changes on the 207. Hanwell crews always tried to get Uxbridge crews to do all the work: not just a vicious rumour, it'd been well documented over the years. The creation of the 207A was in part an attempt to do something about it, but was doomed to failure. The same with Bromley and Catford on the 94.

Who l remembers the N89 going to London Bridge with the odd westbound journey diverted to Southall Brent Road instead of Uxbridge? Iโm sure at one stage there was even a crazy early morning journey or two that continued beyond Brent Road via Heathrow and West Drayton to Uxbridge. I also remember being able to catch an N11 from Acton all the way to Hackney? Or an N2 from North Finchley to Crystal Palace. The N90 (I think) ran from Hammond Street to Kingston or something crazy like that. Also who remembers the N81 from Victoria to Gillingham? Or the N56 night bus express to Heathrow? Those were the days ๐ The N56 was a single nightly journey departing Paddington Station at 04:41 operating via Euston, King's Cross, Holborn LT Station, Aldwych, Waterloo, Trafalgar Square, Westminster, Victoria, Hyde Park Corner and Cromwell Road then NON-STOP to Heathrow Airport Central Terminals 1, 2 and 3. The return journey from Heathrow Airport ran NON-STOP to Paddington then via Euston to terminate at King's Cross. The N56 operated from 26/27 April 1985 until 20/21 May 1993

West Dulwich to Stanmore Would have loved to been alive then . Oh 1980s Night Buses were something else. Sadly I was too young but the one I would of like to have done was the N81 from Trafalgar Square to Gillingham with a T. Also, the old N109 when journeys were split between New Addington & Coulsdon again with a T and the N route that ran from Kingston to somewhere up North West London sounded like fun as well.

Those were the days ๐ From the 19/20 October 1990 until 2/3 October 1993, service NX1 operated LIMITED STOP from Victoria to Gillingham via Westminster, Trafalgar Square, New Cross, Welling Corner, Bexleyheath, Crayford, Dartford, Greenhithe, Swanscombe, Northfleet, Gravesend, Chalk, Higham, Strood, Rochester and Chatham. The return journeys operated as the outward journeys from Gillingham to Strood then NON-STOP to Bexley and then NON-STOP to Trafalgar Square or New Cross Gate. From 8/9 October 1993, Service N81 operated Victoria to Gillingham via Westminster, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Bridge, Lambeth North, Elephant & Castle, Old Kent Road, New Cross, Deptford, Shooters Hill, Welling, Bexleyheath, Crayford, Dartford, Gravesend, Strood, Rochester and Chatham. The Bexleyheath to Gillingham service was withdrawn 23/24 July 1999. From August 1999, buses started at Watford Junction as service N60 as far Baker Street where it then changed to service N80 to Gravesend before changing again to service N82 to Gillingham. The Watford Junction to Trafalgar Square section did not last long.
Night services to Gillingham were withdrawn from 18/19 May 2002.

The Kingston route was the N92, It didn't last long but a definite 'must ride' at the time. There was a single journey that started from Victoria via T Sq out to Kingston that then returned to Potters Bar. Seemed weird to be riding round South West London in a Scania! I believe the remainder of the Kingston journeys were run from HT with Ms. Moz
