The outbound 185 and 436 run together between Vauxhall and Camberwell Green then on their same journeys approach Lewisham from opposite directions. I'm going to play the ancient old sage/f*rt card, as you mention the 185, and say that once you could get on a 185 in Vauxhall Bridge Road for Greenwich and East Greenwich. Alternatively, a couple of hundred yards away in the bus station, if you were extremely lucky and there wasn't an r in the month or some other impediment, you might just find a rather more direct 70 to the same places. Both were ex-tram routes, though the 70 only got extended to Victoria in post -tram days. In theory, I could get a 70 from there to within yards of my home in Eltham, but it never actually happened!

1. The E5, 95 and 105 at Telford Road bus stop in Southall North, the E5 towards Perivale and Greenford shares a stop with the 95 and 105 that just came back from Greenford and will go to Southall / Heathrow. (and vice versa) 2. The 142 and 324 in Stanmore, the 142 Watford bound service serves the same stops as the 324 Brent Cross bound service. 3. The 23 Hammersmith bound service serves the same stops with the 27 Chalk Farm bound service between Westbourne Grove and St Mary's Hospital. 4. The 220 Wandsworth bound service serves the same stops with the 266 Brent Cross bound service between Harlesden, Jubilee Clock and Willesden Junction. I'm sure that there are many more

Being pedantic, not exactly stopping opposite each other, but passing ,yes. 173 to Kings George Hospital stops in High Rd Chadwell Heath, 362 passes in other direction also going to Hospital, but its stop is further along beyond 173's turning onto High Rd.

Playing another example that's not quite as ancient (1980s), the old P3[1] and 37 went in opposite directions along Peckham Rye Lane to Peckham Bus Station. This was when the P3 used to go from Peckham to London Bridge via the double-backing of Nunhead (ie, Peckham-Nunhead-Peckham-London Bridge with the same double backing on return journeys). I KNOW it's not bus related but the ultimate 'opposite direction' must be Exeter to London? Waterloo and Paddington trains leave in opposite directions
