Following on from this year's launch of GoSutton, TfL are now proposing a demand responsive bus trial in Ealing
The trial will last 12 months. Journeys will cost £3.50 a time. Operating hours will be 06:00-01:00 approx.
The contract will be awarded to RATP, who will operate in partnership with MOIA as their technology provider. The trial will use a fleet of new TGE MAN L4H3 ten-seater mini-buses. Buses will operate from Twickenham Bus Garage. The service will be operated with up to nine vehicles in service during peak hours.
The chosen area is bounded by Western Avenue to the north and the North Circular to the east. It covers most of Southall, Greenford, Hanwell and Ealing, including Ealing Hospital.

This aspect is interesting:
“Drivers will be based at Twickenham Garage, TW1 1DQ, directly employed by RATP London Sovereign, who already operates some bus services for TfL in London“
So a return of use of NC as an operating base, under London Sovereign rather than London United.

Have seen some very positive feedback from users of this service. I'll be trying it this week too so will see what's what.

The Sutton network always seems quite likely used.

The Sutton network always seems quite likely used. Likely or lightly?

The Sutton network always seems quite likely used. It can be quiet at times but from my own usage and observtions it could do with a few more vehicles. I once waited 45 minutes for pick up near Ikea Croydon once becuase the vehicles were all busy in the middle of Sutton. It also suffers from a lack of drivers as GAL are always advertising. In my opinion it has proved very popular and it has a very loyal base of users already.

Have seen some very positive feedback from users of this service. I'll be trying it this week too so will see what's what. Right so on Slide 5. Pick up was 10 mins. One other passenger. Driver really nice. Vehicle superb. Two points.. Pick up requested was South Ealing Stn but actual pick up was around the corner in side road. Felt a bit conspicuous. Second point, I now know a strangers address. But I suppose this also happens if you take a shared uber. But overall very impressed. Driver said he was very busy yesterday.

I honestly think this will work in some parts of London. Advertising is key. From what I can understand, the advantage is if your journey would normally involve more than one bus, or you normally take an Uber, then this sort of service is ideal. People will pay £2 extra to avoid waiting twice for a bus, and be dropped off door to door. Will always be cheaper than uber as well. I think the Ealing service should get extended to cover Park Royal and parts of Brentford, basically down to the A4. Add an extra say five or six minibuses, and have them starting at 5am.
