For me it has to be a slow, indirect, residential route on flat topography. Whilst things like the EL2 can be seen as very grim I do find the industrial aspects interesting. The route I have had the least fun on is the 192 which (apart from Angel Road industrial bit) is slow, residential and the only route to connect its 2 termini. Outside of London Readings 4 is the worst thing I have ever been on.

If you’re like me and you like a nice country run, get a B12 to the southern edge of the Joyden’s Wood loop and head south. Much underrated. Yeah Birchwood Road is lovely. Though it's within Dartford Borough not Bexley. And what people don't realise is how relatively short the walk to Swanley is either, can be useful in that capacity.

I found the 4 quite nice on my only run, what’s up with it?

Yep my nan lives on the edge of Swanley near Birchwood Corner, so I've done the walk down Birchwood Road to Joyden's Wood many times and it's lovely. I'd also recommend popping into the Birchwood Golf Club on the walk, they do lovely food in the restaurant in there.

Why is 372 on this list? It’s got scenery on parts of its route. Especially after it passes Wennington towards Lakeside. Just an opinion but even though it passes through fields there is at all times an industrial backdrop. Essex has some beautiful countryside but not next to the Thames.

I just tried the 173 end-to-end today and I think it's alright. Having lived in Coventry for a year before, I would say the 173 is better than at least 90% of the routes there (which offer you unlimited scenes of dull factories and business parks). I do like its section along the A13 which allows some high speed runs with the amazing engine sound of an "antique" B7TL! Prefer it much better than other East London trunk routes which run along the (not so bright) main streets with very slow traffic and heavy loads of passengers in-and-out (e.g. 25/86/425 along Romford Road).
Also tried 108 last week and I do like it! The section near Blackheath offers some nice views of a green common and a high street which is more like an English town out of London. Also its little climb up the slopes do give something different from other TfL routes.

The word scenic is probably quite subjective. I'd actually say the 108 is one of my favourite London routes. The Stratford end is relatively interesting to see some of the Olympic Park. The Blackwall Tunnel area is rather grim, but interesting being on a bus route through that tunnel. North Greenwich is also interesting, with the 02, some industrial landscape, and to see how the area is changing through development. Blackheath is good to see, them it gets boring towards Lewisham.
I haven't travelled on an 'unscenic' route for a while, but I remember the 58 being rather bland. Also many Dagenham and Romford area routes too, the ones which don't venture into the countryside.
