I've always found the 287 scenic... for other reasons. Also, what exactly is scenic about the 169? One of London's more boring routes. I'm not a driver, but I fell asleep when on the S4. What a mess... Other than seeing out Bombardier Ilford from top deck window just after when you leave Ilford heading towards Clayhall and there is a green bit by the Clayhall stand, the 169 is just your average East London route. I do quite like the 287 especially it does have last remaining sights of industrial bits of East London and the remains of Ford Dagenham.
I do feel like that the above OP is really glued onto buses in parts of East London as in a bubble and never been outside of East London, especially with some fantastic routes out there across London and outside of London.

What a mess... To be fair the Rainham end (on stand) is quite good. I did it in the first week of January (was a sunny day) and seemed good to me There needs to be a route on the most un-picturesque route - the EL2 will win it hands down. The Dagenham dock end is the most depressing sight I have seen in London! Looks like a post-apocalyptic scene post a nuclear war!

It's quite funny as when the EL2 was introduced the "Dagenham Dock Terminus" was brand new and stood out in the bleak area, now it's full of potholes and the road is basically non existent. Has to certainly be the most depressing place a bus terminates, quite funny as it's not that far from the nice lakes and fountains of Barking Riverside.

From the two end to end journeys I've done both starting from Dagenham Dock, not a soul boarded until Barking Riverside.

Probably the only person that has but that’s only to go to Thames View.

It can get passengers, the most common one being when the 173/287 aren't in the best state due to A13 issues as it's only a short walk from Asda. However it's not often and it's a very random place to terminate a bus route.

From personal experience the least favourite to drive for me have been E1 and H2 yo-yo and merry go round. Busy and you don’t go anywhere and because they are “short” lots of rounds mean long duties. 3rd was the 268, Hampstead on a weekend says it all.

I really hate driving the 316.
Temporary Lights/Roadworks almost all the time.
Towards W is terrible but from Kilburn Park to Cricklewood Garage it’s ok as you don’t pick up much and can make the time if Kilburn High Road/Cricklewood Broadway lets you 😂.
If only those residents would allow the Double Deckers to be on 316 then you feel a little at ease with passenger numbers.

I mean even after that parasite has gone. I still hear about it pretty much everyday over the radio.

I’ve been on it for last 3 weeks early/middle/lates and its not that bad. The only things I hate is if iBus have it on headway towards Golders Green it can cause major problems. Golders Green Stand Space. Usual West Hampstead traffic is a pain. Abbey Road can either save your time or lose your time. But not a bad route but supposed I haven’t been on the route long enough to see.

Most of the drivers that were doing it hated it, that is why only 8 went with the route. Being on headway was a catch 22 as you wanted to be on headway with good leaders towards Waterloo but not towards GG as you know that at some point they are going to tell you to hold due to the stand space. Anyway these days I just prefer being on times regardless as when your leader or follower decides they want to clown around you can go around or leave them behind.

It’s the downfall of being on headway thats why I don’t mind it being on timings on MDT because makes it easier overall. I saw only few people coming from BT which didn’t surprise me. A lot ot drivers on the route are loaned from other garages.

But not a bad route but supposed I haven’t been on the route long enough to see. Was even worse when it terminated at West Hampstead: the stand space there is abysmal. And as you both know, there’s very limited stops to be held at safely once you’ve gone passed Lisson Grove. The route has become a victim of its own success since being extended both directions (Trafalgar Square to Waterloo and West Hampstead to Golders Green) adding to this was the growing number of people who now live in the areas north end of the route; the insane amount of constant roadworks and area developments; the pedestrians seemingly unaware of a big red object coming towards them who decide they will just step out into the road after a few seconds hesitation; the long winded diversions nowadays;the traffic in central London and its a disaster on many days. It was a route I enjoyed back in the day; but I’d rather now drive 5 rounds on the 18, than one on the 139.
