TfL Statement - London’s Transport Commissioner responds to the Prime Minister's statement on coronavirus The below stands out as a sign public transport remains important and the new commissioner is keen that londoners return to public transport - I will probably get told off for being too positive “What is clear to me is that the current situation is unsustainable - we must avoid a car-led recovery which would cause gridlock and only make things worse. So my message to Londoners returning to public transport is we are doing everything to keep things clean and safe for everyone. We are here to help”.
I think that you're actually not being too positive at all. Yesterday was a massive turning point for me, getting a haircut and going to the pub for the first time since March. I was probably one of the most vocal cautionaries on this thread but I think with time, more people will take advantage of their liberties and see the light. Now I'm not being foolish - I certainly wasn't 100% comfortable in the pub and I won't be for some time. It was my friends who dragged me out reluctantly and the majority of pubs in my area have been well staffed for the situation, with appropriate measures in place. I've only complained about masks for the personal annoyance of wearing glasses but in reality if it's what you've got to do then so be it. Trying to get my mates to come to my local tomorrow (so I don't have to be the one going to theirs as I usually do ) so they'll probably have to take the train. We all take the pee out of the "stay alert" message, it should really be "act responsibly," but it's perfectly possible to go out, see some friends and be responsible for the sake of everyone's best interests Sunday will be the first time I've worn a mask since I was in hospital as I need a haircut - it will give me practice for the 27th which is the first day I'll have to wear one at work (I don't work on the 24th). I will then attempt to convince myself sometime in the next few weeks to take a bus journey now the essential bit has been dropped and see how my mental state reacts to that

However the 30 passenger maximum on double deckers remains less on single deckers.

Londoners urged to travel to work in the fresh air on an open-top sightseeing bus
Snap the bus and coach crowdsourcing platform are running a trial using London Open Top Buses between Walthamstow and Central London. This is a good idea and will make use of the tour buses which are currently mothballed
This was also on the ITV news at 1.30pm and will probably be repeated at 6.30pm and on the local London news.

Pleased this is happening, it’s something I suggested a few weeks back ! Would only last while the weather is agreeable though !

Are the weekend night services and the Night tube back in service? How long are London Buses going to be limiting capacity?

From Monday 27 July all passengers using the Emirates Air Line will be required to touch in and out, with Oyster or contactless cards, at the EAL gate-line as usual. Opening hours will be from 07:00 until 22:00 Mondays to Fridays, 08:00 until 22:00 Saturdays/bank holidays and 09:00 until 22:00 Sundays. Due to social distancing measures only one passenger is allowed per cabin, unless a household or group is travelling together

Do you that Sadiq Khan would follow though on Boris’ demand and make the London Underground drivel’s? Does the track and signals really have to changed for the Tube to be driverless.

Had to wear a mask for the first time today, surprised how many people in Tesco not wearing any face coverings! Didn't realise how warm you get!
Noticed the same on my local bus routes despite being the rule since 15th June. Lots of passengers seem to be wearing a mask to board then taking off especially when upstairs.

The unions won't want driverless trains and will likely lock horns with TfL if any such proposal is bought forward for driverless trains, which I can't see happening and of course they can easily strike to use their leverage. For what its worth my view on driverless trains is that they've been an inevitability for a while. In this digital age lots of blue collar jobs can be digitalised with new jobs being in different sectors and in future I think we'll see a shift to white collar jobs at the expense of blue collar ones. Consider that on London Underground there used to be guards but getting rid of them was the thin end of a wedge which eventually leads to autonomy. I think guards are a good thing to have on long distance services to tend to the needs of passengers and in case of emergencies but don't see much need for them on a metro system, having some staff member on every train would be a niceity but would be expensive, a theoretical advantage of driverless train is you could save money on wages but in reality if they ever did happen TfL may have to redeploy the drivers and give them alternative employment given how unpopular driverless trains will be with the unions. What I'm trying to say is that I think driverless trains will happen eventually but that there'll be long hard battles with unions before we see them meaning its unlikely they'll happen any time soon.

With new trains and signalling coming up, can see the Piccadilly Line being the first, but TfL would be mad to suggest it until all infrastructure upgrades are complete ... so will be a GOOD few years off yet. A second line would be a long way in the future I suspect.
