Is anyone even surprised that the Fix Your Bike voucher scheme website has crashed 7 minutes before even applications begin? 🙄😂🤔

It is like roads have gone back to normal. The roads are just full of traffic again sadly. Everywhere there’s a traffic jam. What lockdown. It’s not like how it was at the beginning of the Lockdown what with the roads virtually empty but now the cars have returned and now it’s exactly how it was before the lockdown and roads are now jammed with cars. Some roads have massive queues. I thought that there would be a change in car use.

I've been out and about in London the last couple of days and the roads are still quieter when compared to a normal Summer weekday. Admittedly I did not visit Central London in the formal lockdown but it is still considerably quieter than I have experienced in the past. Oxford Street had hardly anyone walking on it yesterday and every bus I saw was pretty much empty, it doesn't help that TfL has closed like a ton of bus stops in the City and Westminster.

Central London seems to be the only place bucking the trend currently - everywhere else seems to have become very busy again, certainly that's my experience in Brixton which is pretty mcuh back to normal except the roads are even busier than pre lockdown.

Yep same in east London. Blackwall Tunnel and A13 are back to pre covid levels. Also noticed how busy Gallions Reach shopping centre car park was yesterday!

You should see Westway Cross Retail car park it’s rammed full of cars. There are long lines of cars trying to get into Westway Retail Park. Westway looks like Christmas is coming. So Greenford Road and surrounding roads are jammed pack with cars. This also made worst by works under the bridge on Greenford Road. So yeah the amount cars in North Greenford has increased drastically.

I wish the councils and TfL did something that severely cuts the amount of traffic in London because the cars can’t be good for environment or Convid. It was so nice at beginning of the Lockdown when there wasn’t much traffic. Encourage people to use public transport, walking and cycling. Increase the amount of bus and cycle lanes. But the problem is TfL and the council don’t have the money for that so they say. 😉

I cycled up to Westway Cross about a week ago and I have to say I noticed that it was getting busier but wasn't as busy then as you describe it being. I think lots of people are flocking to the shops so areas with retail are likely to be busier than usual and retail parks often have lots of car parking which encourage people to drive there.

It was so nice at beginning of the Lockdown when there wasn’t much traffic. Encourage people to use public transport, walking and cycling. But the problem is TfL and the council don’t have the money for that so they say. 😉 Ealing Council are proposing lots of low traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs) around central Ealing to encourage walking and cycling by forcing cars a longer way round, there's one coming in the roads around Lammas Park (Lavington Rd, Loveday Rd, Elers Rd, Carew Rd, Waldemar Ave). From my experiences, those roads aren't that busy so I'm not sure how necessarry the scheme is in that particular area but I believe in the principles behind schemes which encourage sustainable methods of travel. I think the problem around North Greenford is probably that there's car parking spaces for hundreds of cars at the retail park but the local road network can't cope with all the pressure though you work there so you'd know better than me and I know you've said that public transport links to busy retail parks should be improved. I believe Ealing is a borough of high car dependency which is precisely why we got the DRT trial.

It's not surprise that a bus forum has got so many anti cyclists but for me personally cycling into work has been great especially when we was in full lockdown as it just felt a lot safer than getting on public transport during this time and yes I did cycle in rainy weather as well. I recently purchased a Electric Scooter been using it over a month now, seen a lot more e scooters/cycling along Jamaica Road these past months, with road works still on going due to cycle lanes being built it’s been much quicker for me to get to/from work due to a lot of traffic. Some cyclists/e scooter users going through red lights which makes me think some do think there above the law but cars do the same sometimes Especially after midnight. Depending on my start/finishing times & when I have to do school runs I still take bus/tube. Some work places offer showering facilities so some commuters benefit from cycling also a lot more work firms have been offering cycle to work schemes with my Toc recent scheme just finished with another one due end of year. Also I’ve seen recently e scooter hiring are due to start soon

As I’ve mentioned before next timetable uplift is due in September, majority of Tocs have begun discussions with local schools to see what route corridors need a uplift in services to aid social distancing concerns (back to pre covid service levels) in the TL core daily ETCS test trips have been running this past month. Also driver training has recommended this past month for majority of tocs.
Elephant & Castle shopping centre closure has been pushed back to September as the new market recollection at Elephant road has not finished but Is almost complete, E&C TL station has had new CIS screens placed at Elephant rd entrance in preparation of the shopping centre exit closing

A lot of schools I have heard will have staggered finish times so could throw up some interesting schedule changes on buses and more trips added to school routes

Berry's Superfast coaches between London and Somerset resume today to a limited timetable. These terminate/start at Hammersmith Bus Station and have a considerable local following in Somerset as they serve several locations that are not on the rail or National Express networks. book.berryscoaches.co.uk/superfast-timetables.html
