The ready availability of hire bikes in London removes any storage problems and do cyclists really need somewhere to shower and change? We are talking about a fairly moderately paced cycle ride and not time trials for the tour de France and of course electric bikes mean less physical exertion. You seem to be desperately looking for any opportunity to discredit cycling and then accuse other people of being anti bus. One thing I didn't want to do is start an argument so can we can we not start one now. Thanks 🙂 Don't worry you haven't started one.

I should apologise for going off topic earlier trying to defend cycling on a bus forum is like telling people about this great new burger on a vegan forum just not going to work. I understand peoples problem with them and all have made very good points. I will never become anti bus as I think buses are such an important mode of transport but if someone chooses to ride a bike into work then who am I to stop them. Dont apologise, your opinion is just as important and I do think there is a place for cycling providing certain criteria is met even if I'll unlikely ever bother with cycling myself. The fact that the cycling lobby are actually in favour of 24/7 bus lanes is surprising but maybe they're are changing their attitude towards buses.

It's all well and good cycling to work but have to think of practicalities. Is there anywhere secure to leave the bike? is there shower facilities? somewhere to change? Do you enjoy trying to belittle me. Told you time and time again block me but not you like to look high and mighty. You love a argument, seen it many times with you, it's your view or nothing.

Asking three questions is not discrediting everything, didn't he also say in an earlier post he sometimes cycles himself or as I dreaming? You wanted proof of you starting arguments, your exact post is Exhibit A

I have simply explained why storage and shower facilities are not needed, I wonder what you'll come up with next.

He is moving the goal posts all the time and now talking for everyone and how much they sweat or can higher bikes easily, this is not the case in parts of Newham. One thing I'm learning if you can never have a say unless it meets his approval.

Sorry but then what is this comment? "You seem to be desperately looking for any opportunity to discredit cycling and then accuse other people of being anti bus." @dannyb genuinely gave reasonable suggestions, not everyone uses a cycle hire bike. Please tell me how someone who's going to cycle from Forest Gate to Wanstead is going to pick up a Santander cycle? Please tell me what human does not sweat? A moderate cycle is still going to cause you to sweat unless you for whatever reason go the speed of a snail by which point you'll be better off walking.

I have seen some other cycle hire schemes around including Lime E and Mobike which I've seen left on the streets locally to me but they don't seem to have any docking stations, instead being left in random locations. The annoying thing about having many cycle hire schemes is that you may find when you want to hire a bike that you aren't signed up to one which is precisely why I think it would be great if the Santander cycles area were enlarged though I recognise this seems unlikely to happen.

I think it's quite understandable why Santander is unlikely to branch out. Naturally the further into certain suburbs you get the more likely they are to be vandalised. It's a slightly morbid generalisation of everything but is however the truth. There's this Trend on TikTok at the moment where people keep throwing Santander bikes into the river and in Barking you often see them abandoned all over the place. Which is quite funny as the nearest docking stations are the ones in Leamouth or the Olympic Park.

Indeed if you put a docking station cycle hire scheme further out then your obviously going to get people cycling further away from London which in turn will cause people to dump these bikes all over the place. I think the original idea of the boris bikes where for short journeys within zone one.

I think a cycle hire scheme is better than no cycle hire scheme hence why I'd take Lime E and Mobike over nothing. Talking of Central London it seems that the Santander bikes have been a success, whenever I'm near the East-West cycle superhighway I see plenty of people using it and plenty of people hire bikes. I often see docking stations with few bikes there though I do acknowledge that this could also be things like people throwing them into the river or vandalising them.

Forms of social media such as these are utter s**t, in fact Social Media across the whole of lockdown really did make me anxious, though posting on this forum helped me think of it less. Tiktok is one of those social media websites where people advertise behaviour that isn't as good as "good" and it's a bit like gangster lifestyles being advertised on Instagram. Tiktok is not one of those places where it doesnt make people dumb, it's where you see the dumb people and particularly how people advertise putting their Netflix binge watching over studying for GCSEs
