We’ve been moving towards working from home for sometime now...... Covid has just speeded it up. I don't get why though. Maybe if I was in an office based rule then I'd understand a bit more but to me actually meeting people face to face is a lot nicer than just zoom calling someone one. From a social point of view working from home isn't great as people likely live all other the place so friday night drinks is no longer a thing which in turn means more jobs in the hospitality industy gone. Us humans are social and need to interact not be sat on video calls all the time. People are acting like the world ended and we are starting again. The virus has been around 8 or so months. We will be back to normal at some point i would be shocked if it takes more than a year to be pretty much back to near normal.

That doesn't say it's been sped up, all that article says it that working from home has increased during the lockdown period That's what I meant, it's increased during lockdown but it's been becoming more commonplace for a few years now. That's some back tracking on the earlier comment! You was suggesting its the new normal...

I'll give you an example........ a friend of mine lived in Orpington about 10 minutes from the station which was ideal for commuting into The City. He then started mainly working from home a few years ago and moved down the coast buying a similar house for about half the price five minutes from the beach. No more getting up at 6am to be in work at 9am, no more commuting ....... what's not to like? And his employer saves money on office costs.

Guessing he was probably in his later years!

I think even though people don't like cummuting they just learn to get used to it. This thing about moving to the beach is lovely but if I was a young professional would I want to be working on my own from home? The answer would be no.

Everyone's different but a lot of office based jobs can be done more efficiently remotely.

Yes costs might be down but so does employee productivity so it's not really a gain.

We’ve been moving towards working from home for sometime now...... Covid has just speeded it up. Where I work there's a big push to get everyone back on site as soon as possible. Don't think it's been sped up in any way. I started a new job in the rail industry last week (in an office based role) and where I work, our offices have just reopened. However we have the choice of whether or not we wish to come in - and if we do we have to book a desk in order to maintain social distancing within the office, so this push to return to work isn't exactly being sped up either. Whilst I've been working from home the last week which has been a nice experience, I would much rather return to the office full time sooner rather than later. I do miss the social interaction with colleagues and for me personally I'm more productive when I'm in the working environment.

I think in future people should be able to chose whether they want to work from home or go in to the office. There are pros and cons to both but I wouldn't want to be at home all the time as I would get too easily distracted and tend to procrastinate whereas I find it easier to focus when at work, but I understand not everyone is the same. I think there may be some shift to working at home but I'm not sure if it'll be all that drastic or just a more minor shift, though in lots of cases I suspect it won't be down to individuals but to employers to decide whether they want their employees working at home.

I suppose it will vary from job to job whether people can choose whether they work from home or not, the amount of empty office blocks speak for themselves. Personally I think there are more possible distributions in an open plan office environment than in the spare room at home.

Have you thought people might not have returned because adjustments are being made ie creating desk space for social distancing. Also its summer people are on holiday. Pretty sure we will see a big change once schools are back. Also please stop making the assumption its down to people to choose where to work when at the end of the day its the employer who has the final say.

Does this mean you will no longer be at college in Huddersfield?

What on earth does Coronavirus have to do with providing WiFi to everyone on a train?
