Sorry but can we stop with the conspiracy theories please - next you'll be telling me 5G causes Covid! Don't tarnish me with those nutters please, I'll take it as personal insult. Your post suggests the government is using Covid to control us which is ludicrous and another conspiracy theory - I dislike this government a lot and think their handling has been woeful at best but I'm not following conspiracy theories with little or no basis

How many of those are due to other causes, lack of treatment. I know two older persons that were healthy before lockdown, and died within 4 months, non COVID related. If they were able to live their normal lives, I reckon the would still be here today. Suicide rates are also up since lockdown. So what, that makes the cure worse than the disease? Think of the numbers that would be dead now if we take no action. Hundreds of thousands. The estimated morality rate for coronavirus is 1%. There are 60 million people in this country. If no action was taken and the virus was allowed to freely infect the population, we would be looking at several hundred thousand deaths, not to mention even more from "lack of treatment" as you put it - as we would quite literally be dumping people outside hospital doors. I agree, no government is going to advocate doing nothing and letting the virus kill hundreds of thousands of people........... on the other hand the current situation is causing all sorts of mental health problems and even suicides......it's always going to be a balancing act. As for the test and trace app are people really going to self isolate if it tells them to do so? I heard about somebody who was told by the app to self isolate for 8 days only to be told two days later that he was clear. Someone else had symptoms and called 111 and was told to self isolate and that no tests were available...... went on the gov.uk website and booked a test without any difficulty and was given the all clear.

An update email from TFL regarding School buses
We are planning to continue running school services on our bus network after the October half term until the end of the current term in December.
School Services will continue to run similarly to how they have in the first half of the autumn term, with extra services running and up to half of all buses on certain higher frequency routes signed as 'school services' at school travel times. The full list of routes that include school services and additional services can be found on our bus changes page.
School services will not operate while schools break up for the October half term (Monday 26 to Friday 30 October) for the most part, though this is subject to local variations depending on local requirements.
We are also encouraging all children to walk, cycle or scoot to school if they can, and for other customers using public transport to travel outside of school travel times and at quiet times if possible.
We are asking our customers to follow the latest government guidance to ensure they use public transport safely. This includes:
Planning your journey in advance if you need to travel and travelling at quiet times and on quiet routes where possible. Quiet times on public transport overall are between 08:15 and 16:00, and after 17:30. On the road network, quiet times are between 10:00 and 15:00 and after 19:00 Wearing a face covering when using public transport (including school services), if aged 11 and over unless exempt for health or equality reasons We're doing all we can to make sure public transport can be used safely. We're continuing to run a full planned service, which along with widespread signage, makes social distancing easier on the network, while our enhanced cleaning regime has made the network cleaner than ever.
We're also taking action against the minority of customers who refuse to wear a face covering without an exemption.
Yours sincerely,
Director of Bus Operations

Still over 20k cases a day but Boris at it again
Covid-19: Boris Johnson hopes families can have Christmas together
My personal view is maybe we should just except 2020 has been one rubbish year and lets except Christmas will not be like any other. I would hate for everyone to go mad mixing and we end up in a bad place in January and February. I totally get everyone is fed up (Me included) but just want this dealt with properly and not to keep stop start.

I agree here, Christmas is my favourite time of year and an amazing time of year to see family. The one day almost everyone has off (highly respect those that work it) which means gatherings can be easily planned. The virus will not take a Christmas break, sadly this year many more people than normal will probably end up spending it alone. But we shouldn't give up the fight, the virus might be here to stay long term but it will eventually be cured. We just need to accept there's more hardship ahead and that we will all get through it.

New Covid-19 walk-in test centre opening in Plumstead soon. Its currently being constructed on the Abery Street car park right beside the relocated Lakedale Road (eastbound) bus stop. www.fromthemurkydepths.co.uk/2020/10/23/walk-in-test-centre-coming-to-plumstead-high-street/www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/18815679.south-east-london-covid-test-site-announced-plumstead/One walk-in test centre recently opened at the University of Greenwich Avery Hill campus and another has been proposed in Abbey Wood. For a city with almost 10 million people, it could do with alot more test centres, many existing ones are drive-through only (such as North Greenwich and Lee Valley), so I welcome these new walk-in test centres, even if its 10 months late. I don't know of any new/proposed test centres opening anywhere else in London but I'd argue that they could've been placed in areas with higher rates of infection. Based on data from PHE, South East London has the lowest cases per 100,000 with Bexley and Greenwich among the 5 least infectious boroughs. Hackney has the highest rates of infection. But that is not to say that I don't welcome all new test centres...The more the better, regardless of their location, capacity or type(walk-in/drive-through).

Came across this website from Imperial College London which show the changes in infection rates across the UK - imperialcollegelondon.github.io/covid19local/In case you don't know, hotspots are local authorities where there are more than 50 cases per 100,000 per week.

The tighter guidelines in areas in tiers 2 & 3 is affecting some tier 1 areas. Now that Manchester & Liverpool are in tier 3 with advice against non-essential travel, tourist hotspots such as Windermere in tier 1 are losing as many people either cancel or don't even book to stay in the first place. Blackpool in tier 3 is missing out through so few people staying even for the Illuminations during half-term.

Channel 4 dispatchers has tested the transport network in London & found it to be cleaner than coffee shops & supermarkets - for anyone interested, the program is on tonight at 20:00.

Nice to see some BTP officers out on Southeastern today enforcing the rules on face coverings although it still seems to be just a word with people and a free mask rather than a fine.
On a lighter note I saw a driver on the 122 (12400) wearing a very impressive face mask.

Was in the Beckton area today and really was shocked just how empty buses were! I totally understand we have been encouraged to only travel if necessary but at the same time worried about the future of transport in London.

I totally understand we have been encouraged to only travel if necessary but at the same time worried about the future of transport in London. Personally, I don't understand why somewhere in Tier 2 is being discouraged from travelling on public transport but yet we can go to pubs, restaurants and all manner of shops especially when some of these have questionable cleaning regimes or none at all. I understood the decision during lockdown and I'd understand it if we were in Tier 3 but as it stands, it's baffling especially when almost all other Tier 2 regions have no such advice.

So I am finally back on buses for the first time since the 14th March. Must say buses feel much more socially distanced than trains especially the DLR!

So I am finally back on buses for the first time since the 14th March. Must say buses feel much more socially distanced than trains especially the DLR! Indeed, although it is annoying waiting for the bus, only to have the driver tell you that you cannot board because the bus is full. You'd think that for such a sophisticated bus network, we'd have ways of knowing whether or not the bus you're waiting for is over or under capacity. I know Stagecoach (outside London) and Bluestar provide such information, and probably many other operators. It would be very helpful, especially in this weather...
