Positive reminder - we will get through this! So many people on the internet. Twitter is particularly awful, so many fearmongering tweets. Try not to focus on the negative news, get a good dose of positives too. Antivirals and vaccine trials are progressing well with some effective treatments being tested out. Ventilator prototypes have been made with the intention of producing thousands for those who get serious symptoms and need them for treatment. A good resource which has helped me to stay more grounded on this serious issue:- www.reddit.com/r/Anxiety/comments/fj2y1a/lets_post_good_news_on_the_coronavirus_here/It's almost certain that there's more cases than what's shown on Worldometer, due to the lack of tests, and the fact that the symptoms are mild for most. Therefore it seems that the death rate is much lower than the WHO's 3.4% estimate (n.b. swine flu also had high death rate predictions when the outbreak was beginning). We are all in this together. Except for panic bulk buyers, they can eff off. Selfish pricks. I've largely avoided social media recently, I'd be the first to acknowledge that it has many positives but I can't help thinking it's turned us into a nation of whingers. And who are these panic buyers? I've yet to hear of anyone admitting to panic buying, most people claim to be buying only what they need and it's everybody else that is panic buying and everybody else says the same and so on and so on. It's human nature that people are going to stock up in the circumstances so shall we just admit that we are all panic buyers and stop moaning about it and posting photos of empty shelves on social media? Because all that is going to do is encourage others to panic buy. Supermarkets and their suppliers are working very hard but a chronic shortage of lorry drivers isn't helping matters, I know where I point the finger of blame for that but that's another subject. I'm just playing it by ear and listening to the advice but it does all feel just a little bit like project fear all over again to me and I really hope that I'm not tempting fate saying that. I've only been out today to walk the dog and there are still plenty of people out and about, the window cleaner out on his rounds, is that essential? A neighbour down the road is having work done on his house, builders looked like they were hard at it and there was a lorry delivering materials, is that essential? A friend of my daughters is a mobile hairdresser and she's still taking bookings, is that essential? I guess we'll all have to use our own commonsense. On a positive note I have noticed a great community spirit amongst many people.

I especially would have thought that Heathrow Airport stations would have been closed. Its down to staffing levels, so staff are focused on certain stations. Over the past week there also has been train cuts on London Underground, which shows up as "operational reasons" in the status updates. It has been happening on buses also where staff going offsick

I should hope the government implement their rumoured lockdown sometime on Friday afternoon, don't want the "me me me" folk to continue ignoring government advice and carrying on with their Friday night cocaine fuelled parties and risk further spread... On a transport related note, if all TfL services get suspended, could some buses be re-deployed elsewhere and perhaps used to create special services for emergency service/health workers connecting hospitals & police stations for example. I would assume these services would definitely need a police presence on them though. Does Italy prove that a lockdown works ... they have one in place and currently the worse stats ... looking at Italy in isolation would say that is not the way to go. Well said, sick of people want everything locked down, then go out and panic buy everything in the shops then further risk the spread of the virus

Sky News leaking this, it will create more panic buying. They are reporting transport could be restricted to Key Workers from the weekend and London will be in lockdown with shops closing. I have grown to seriously dislike, and actually distrust Sky. They are a commercial news outlet , so have an interest in scaremongering to grab viewers in, and then, lo and behold .. “Advertisement break”.... In past crisis a key worker, probably used to be a NHS, Fire Brigade, Police , Ambulance etc. Now, key worker is a food delivery driver. I said a while back these food delivery firms need to be managed by the government so deliveries can be made to quarantined areas. not that there are any quarantined areas yet, but it’s an option. I wouldn't just blame sky, many of the news outlets are just as bad. Then you get clown sending out poo on social media about everything would have been in lockdown on Friday, or sending video's of the army going out to close things down. Earlier this week people were forwarding Prince Philip died etc and they were keeping it under wraps, the constant empty shelves when many shops were not empty, then encouraged people to further panic buy. The pathetic toilet paper saga, idiots clearing off sanitizer etc to profiteer. Or people saying there was rioting going on and forwarding videos of looting, but eagle eye people would know it was from 2012 by the type of buses around. One sickening situation was a pharmacy selling calpol for a nasty mark up of £19.99 and paractomol for £9!!!

I'm down to a bottle of milk, no bread, no potatoes and a pretty empty freezer! Something really needs to be done to sort out the panic buying. Other countries seem to be managing this much better. Same for me my fridge is pretty much empty. The people panic buying are really arrogant not thinking about anyone else You can get many of those items from a petrol station or local shop, no need to go supermarket.

If there is a lockdown, no one would be able to panic buy because there would actually be proper restrictions in place like in France & Italy where you would require a permit for starters with failure to show one resulting in police action. greenboy not everyone can self isolate as some of us have jobs to go to. I can't suddenly tell my boss I'm self isolating when I've no legitimate reason to do so.

Local shops can inflate their prices to ridiculous levels which is why many are shunning these places.

What this pandemic has shown me is that society in general and as a whole is trash in that: the elderly have become a disposable commodity that apparently we can play around with to the point, we can rob, kick & push them out of the way for our own greed or simply play around with their lives that NHS staff lives are being put in grave danger by the dithering of the government leaving them without the tools needed to save lives as well as look after their own life in the process the greed of younger people as well as the ignorance that because it's not very effective to them, they can do what they want potentially putting vulnerable people at risk the non recognition (as usual) of transport workers, emergency service personnel & supermarket staff who are currently holding the country together - as a supermarket worker myself, we are viewed even in normal times as akin to slaves by the general public and companies and can be walked all over without any sort of reaction To those in the minority who have done something good, well done to you but just a shame others don't take note!!! Seen this behaviour of many since the 1990's in this country, especially past the mid 90's. People are selfish, push the elderly out the way and have no respect for anyone but themselves.

On a positive note I have noticed a great community spirit amongst many people. I'm not sure if your being dismissive of panic buying in general or not but all I will suggest to yourself is spend a day in a supermarket to see it in full flow - in just 3 days, our staff are already fed up with people behaving worse than animals would just so people can trample over elderly folk for their own greed (that actually happened at our store). Of course people won't admit to panic buying but as a supermarket worker myself, I'm in a good position to to see who is & isn't. I also don't think playing down what's going on helps anyone nor is mentioning project fear particularly relevant as it's no time to get political - I think @greenkittern had the right idea with the positivity aspect which hopefully helps those are more anxious about it. I'm pleased your community is doing the right thing but sadly, it seems to be the exception rather than the norm.
