I know people who have started businesses and those who have lost businesses. No surprise that this who worked hard and did more hours than they needed too succeeded far more than those who just put in a 9-5 and left it. Right now TfL needs revenue producing solutions, speeding up buses would be key to revenue as it would help attract casual users rather than those who have no choice to use the bus. Being efficient doesn’t produce revenue. "Being efficient doesn’t produce revenue" Not sure what business school you ever studied but being efficient produces better revenues. Get operators to produce less padded timetables, and buses will speed up. If you open a business 9-5, you will do a lot longer hours. You don't just shut up and everything magically processes itself. I think everyone agrees regarding having less padded timetables but they ain't much use if the bus still gets delayed because people are parked in a bus lane. Deliveries won't be effected like your suggesting either - have a look at most bus lanes outside businesses and they have bays specifically with signs stating loading & unloading hours with many not just outside of the 7am to 7pm but also inside it too. Having both unpadded timetables and bus lanes free of other vehicles would speed up journeys even more so and would allow PVR's to be trimmed.

Seems the DLR have closed off the first set of seats again.
I wonder if we will see any further restrictions on buses as we find out more about the new variant.

Seems the DLR have closed off the first set of seats again. I wonder if we will see any further restrictions on buses as we find out more about the new variant. Initial reports indicate although the mutation has made the virus more contagious, it is less dangerous, with nothing more than mild symptoms reported. This from a country with less than 25% vaccinations. Think Omicron is the variant we have least to worry from. The biggest risk is from it spreading rapidly, is mutating again to something that spreads just as easily, but with a higher payload. Noone wants to come out and say it is nothing to worry about as it is still very early stages, as the fear of being wrong is strong.

Agree, we need to be cautious while not going bonkers at the same time. Think for once I must give the government the credit and say that so far they did the right thing by opening up when they did - May have saved the day by ensuring a “steady” level of the virus at all times. The steady level / mild growth is fine; it’s the exponential growth as seen in EU that needs to be avoided I for once am looking forward to the team Christmas party - it’s been a very busy year and I can use one day where I forget about work on the weekday and eat, drink and be merry

I think the biggest problem over the next few weeks will be large numbers of people having to self-isolate again, which will cause disruption to our economy at a time when it is under pressure from Christmas demand. However unlike last Christmas, we have high levels of vaccination and now some herd immunity as well, and the Omicron variant looks - at the moment - to be more infectious, but less life-threatening than the original virus and some previous variants. Reintroduction of masks on public transport and in shops is sensible. People can make their own decision about whether they feel safe amongst unmaksed people in theatres, pubs and restaurants. However going to shops is essential for virtually everyone, and public transport should still be available for all.

Why would people be expected to self isolate if Omicron shows no signs of being more dangerous. We have had more virulent strands of flu in recent history where it has not been required. Applies to shops and transport. There is no logic in it for me, and seems to no longer be following the science.

Although the experience of South Africa is encouraging, their population is a lot younger than ours - the median age of South Africa is 27, in the UK it is 41. I prefer that we continue to be cautious. I also think that mask-wearing will become more commonplace in the winter going forward, even if not made compulsory again many people will prefer to wear one in public settings.

What do members make of the video obtained by ITV News of the then press secretary Allegra Stratton making jokes about the alleged Christmas party that took place in Number 10 on the 18th December last year?
Personally think there shouldn’t be anyway back from this for the government. They have played us all! Think Boris really should go now but doubt he will.

It's unfair because we have had to sacrifice our social lives whilst they party. It's always been 'one rule for us, another for them'. Also Raab's excuse of the incident being too long ago to be investigated by the police is pathetic. I'm fed up of this government making up excuses all the time, their handling of the pandemic was awful and I really hope Boris the Buffoon resigns, and even better if he loses the general election.

In the age of 24 hour news cycle some people, not myself as I really couldn’t care less, will be angry and then we’ll all forget. The media will focus on something else they expect us all angry about.

I can’t see this being forgotten anytime soon.

I can’t see this being forgotten anytime soon. I honestly couldn’t agree more here. My mum said who cares it’s a year ago, but it does matter because they specifically put London into Tier 3 and outright said no indoor gathering and then they go and do this. Would you rather this not come out at all? I for one an bl**dy glad it did And doesn’t exactly put them in a good footing to tell us what we can and can’t do this Christmas again as surely we’ll all just laugh in their face. I know for my family this Christmas there is nothing that can be said or done to stop us celebrating. We’re all double jabbed, and boostered where applicable and just gonna get on with it.

Looks like the government will implement plan B later today. Nothing like a bit of deflection.
