I read a comment elsewhere that hinted that a couple of Scania's could maybe stay but nothing confirmed. I really don't get this bizarre fascination/love for the Scanias? They're clunky, noisy, ugly, have the worst seats of any London bus and are old. They look worn out and time for them to be offski'd. Thanks for the service but off you go please. I wouldn't disagree about the awful seating and the suspension isn't great either but appearancewise I think they still look very sleek and modern and have a decent turn of speed and I can certainly understand a bit of fondness for them.

For certain people the loud engine is a positive although I don’t care for Scanias that much either and there is also nostalgia for them too.

No bizarre fascination/love on my part I was simply reporting what I read elsewhere regarding the Scanias possibly remaining in service. I am not fan of them in terms of comfort! I do like the external appearance as they remind me a bit of the older generation of box shape buses like Titans and Metrobuses.

I hear the next route to terminate contract earlier along with the 160/180 is the 273.

They’re the only buses in London that don’t look moderny. In a weird sort of way, Volvo bzls sort of look like an upgraded version of the scannias

I have great experience with them, was my local route so I ride them quite regularly. I am going to miss them but at the same time I’m quite excited to see something different on the 97.

They get very boring after a while but have to disagree about the ugly part. The Scania design was ahead of its time and still holds up well today. Engine wise I tend to prefer the Volvo B9TL as it just feels faster.

I hear the next route to terminate contract earlier along with the 160/180 is the 273. That is the next route Stagecoach started a contract after the 160/660 and 180, but I am surprised as this was a retain, probably a fairly uncompetitive one too. Judging by the contract start date the contract would end on 17th January 2025. The next ones to reach the 3 year break point will be the 55 and 56 (alongside non-native routes 308, 397, 488 and W16), 56 will need a change of allocation as I doubt the existing vehicles will even be compliant on a 3 year contract. Could the vehicles swap with those on the 205 as that doesn't have that long left on its contract, expires mid 2026 I think? Mentioning three year contracts I get the impression that the earlier surrendered contracts (23, C3, 306 and 283) were tendered normally, but subsequent contracts have had three year contracts with existing vehicles as the only option. I think that this will mean routes like the 71, 180, 414, 697, K5 will be able to keep their hybrid or diesel allocations for one more term.

Is it just me that thinks the BZL's are on a different planet to the Electroliners in both design and looks? I'm not slagging off the Electros but the BZL's look slick. Externally, I think both have their flaws though the Electroliners with the new bottom front section are a slight improvement. The BZL looks ok - don’t think anything beats the BYD City for looks thus far. Internally, the Electroliners are currently my favourite of the new electric double deckers especially Abellio’s examples with the full high spec - those glass pillars enhance the experience if your sitting at the front Well the BYD City I do not like the look of the stretched proportions. It looks best on the hybrid version as per HA's or those on the 20, 26, 388

It’s not like the StreetDecks are any better. Gutless heaps and they pretty much have the same seats as OmniCitys anyway (as was spec’d by Tower Transit). A downgrade in pretty much every way. 😜
The 97 is one of my locals, not the most reliable but was always glad to see a Scania. When I return from holiday having my Scanias replaced with usurping rubbish will be quite sad.

No they don’t sound the same, there are clear differences in the sound between the B9TL & Scania. They sound similar because of the gearboxes used. A N270UD will likely be faster than a B9TL because of the extra power but B9TL’s are quick in their own right
