Arriva has confirmed in a staff notice (headed "tender news") they've been awarded the SL1.
Existing buses repainted in Superloop colours with enhancements added to the interior.
Wonder if some other tenders shall follow today

I wonder if it's an 'award' or it's been confirmed to them that they will be operating it with existing resources.

Wonder if some other tenders shall follow today Wonder why on earth that was mentioned as Tender news. Could be a sticky issue if staff get put on a new 'SL1' rota assuming they've got 7 years on it just for the route to move to pastures anew in a few months. We can't expect drivers to be as invested as enthusiasts to religiously check tender programmes and if I was a driver making such decision only to find out I was lied to I'd be less than pleased. Not to mention that the 34s orbital nature means that the SL1 could end up at a garage ranging all the way from Potters Bar to Leyton.

The SL8, SL6 and SL7 use standard buses and the SL1 is unlikely to be any different. On their tenders they should all get electrics.

Imagine how devastating it’ll be to find out it could be lost in a year if tied to the 34 contract.

I get the similar view too, which does make it more absurd when the tender is so close. If they at least had around 2-3 years I'd just about understand but we're talking around 3 months before its tender result. The SL1 is also not going to be a competition free route for them to tell all their drivers they've been awarded it on a brand new contract. Metroline previously have operated the route, Go Ahead have space available at Northumberland Park and Stagecoach are now at a garage that the route passes. Arriva could very well keep it, but they could also lose it. Losing it after lying to your staff would have a much larger effect on morale. I remember RATP back during the 13 withdrawal fiasco released a good statement where they said TfL allowed them to run the route as opposed to being awarded on a new contract. I could however just be chatting febreeze and later today an SL1 tender result comes out.

That's understandable but surely they have a duty to be totally honest to staff? This notice is a bit disingenuous to say the least and there could be ramifications further down the line.

I appreciate what people are saying about the SL1 but it’s still an increase in work (As far as I am aware).
It’s a new route in itself and not just a renumber like the 607 and X26. Maybe the use of tender news was wrongly used but Arriva can’t seem to do anything right in the eyes of the forum.

The SL1 is a new route yes, but remember the 34 is losing a few buses of itself to facilitate this. At most Arriva's increase in PVR will be around 3-4, maybe 5 at a push. The SL7 change was far bigger and Go Ahead didn't go around telling everyone they'd won a new tender, I don't even think they mentioned it publicly that the X26 received the contract extension for a year. The SL1 is a smaller change in the grand scheme and the 34 hasn't had a contract extension. If anything Arriva should have been even more cautious as the SL1 was added to the programme in a tender update.

We don't know the full score yet, and you're jumping to conclusions having a dig at Arriva. Of course, fan favourite Stagecoach would never do such a thing! 🧐

Until then Arriva have blatantly lied to their staff and whether you like it or not that's the fact. You've effectively just told all your staff you've won the SL1 on a brand new contract which implies it'll last a few years, what are you going to tell them if Go Ahead, Metroline or Stagecoach win it in three months? Where have Stagecoach lied to their drivers about a tender result?
