The threats from the Mayor have started an advance of the funding deal ending this Wednesday. Not surprised at all! The mayor does the same thing every time on approach to a bailout expiring. Starting to think that it's pure scaremongering! Let him do it.

Trouble is it is the same threat he has used everytime a negotiation deadline is near. He has never got the deal he was seeking, but has never carried out the threat. No point making a threat, if you are not willing to see it through. So either DfT are not worried by the Mayors threat, or don't believe he has the balls to implement what he is threatening ... yet again!

TfL haven't been managing the decline so far, DfT might take it out of their hands (despite current events in Parliament)... And if the DfT get it, watch it deteriorate even further… Everything TfL "demands" like the Johnston font on blinds, dual-door buses, all-over red etc will go as a Public Transport Executive (PTE) takes over. Take parking enforcement - I cannot remember the last time I saw any proper red route enforcement (like if a van is in a loading bay for more than 20 minutes etc.) like I used to... once enjoyed a very expensive Chicken Chow Mein in Lewisham courtesy of the Met and TfL on Lee High Road but cops are as rare as hen's teeth. Not sure where all the money has been going regarding TfL, we've all adapted our work model, can't they adapt theirs? It seems the train and Tube side is okay, but I'd do something like, if working at Centrecomm, find out from operators / drivers how busy the bus is (just takes a look in the monitors for lower and upper deck), in a way to reduce overbussing in the quiet periods (you will see so many empty 73 buses along Oxford Street). Also return the roads to 30 so traffic flows more. I think TfL is like a student ringing mum and dad as the money's running low for the rent again, and it will happen every month Not sure why they cannot do some sort of audit to see where it's all draining away to? Boris insinuated that Sadiq should cut down on the international trips (back in LA again). It's not looking good for them at the moment but I think the keeping them at arms length will soon end and we will see if the threats are like a child saying they will run away from home after an argument, and how this 'decline' pans out... I don't think any of us will notice

I don't think any of us will notice Sadiq khan can start taking the tube for one and contributing some money to the coffers (although knowing most politicians he will probably expense it, imagine us expensing our daily commute). He is travelling around (apologies if it’s changed in the past few days) in a 5-car diesel entourage while preaching walk or cycle

Funding agreement has been extended until 28th July, discussions will be continued. So as no long term funding has been agreed, are we going to see the implementation of the managed decline, or will it prove to be an empty threat.

Khan will just focus on something else, he will probably use the weekends level 4 weather alert as the perfect distraction.

I do it funny how you think it's solely Khan's fault in all of this and that the DfT are saints?

Don't think either of us are trying to apportion blame on this occasion, just exposing a politician that threatens something, then does not do it. DfT know his threats are baseless now, so the threats do not work. If TfL want to try and get the upper hand in these negotiations, they need a new strategy. Its like Khan does not want a settlement so he can just keep up the female dogin!

If the Central London bus cuts (or at least some of them) turn out to be empty threats for political purposes then that really is disgraceful… causing stress and disruption across the bus industry just to get the government to do what you want

I am allowed my own views but seems if they go against the majority that’s somehow wrong on the forum.

The long term deal saught is for capital projects. The cuts would have happened anyhow with or without a deal, just it is good to use mirrors to deflect the blame onto another body. You have to do something that will be unpopular, best try and blame it on someone or something else - that's politics for you!
