Because cashless means you do not need to dispose of your ticket, which was their intended purpose. Isn't there one on the platform housing of an RM? RMs have two used ticket bins on either side of the platform.

Wasn't it terrorism threats, same as bins were removed from tube stations? The ones at tube stations were due to terrorism threats but the ones on buses was due to the cashless policy greg not sure when they were first introduced but pretty sure they were on the L's, M's & T's when I was growing up during the 90's? They were indeed fitted to those Leylands, on the middle hand rail as you exit the bus if I remember correctly. I remember the bins also on predecessors RM/Ls¹, DMS, SMS and likely also the RTs, suggesting the idea goes back to at least the 1930s. ¹ - on the left or right as you enter/exit

Tube maps. A lot of First kit carried them, no idea why buses can't have them inside really.

Yes I can at least visualise then on Ms and Ts, and RMs. In particular, many of them even predated Travelcards introduced in 1983 so would have been particularly useful then. It could be said that LTs need bins for being rubbish themselves but that's another story.

2020 was surely the first year that no London buses ever had a conductor?

Yes it would have been as between 2005 and 2020 not only the customer assistants but ofcourse still having the original Routemasters till Autumn 2019. Obviously aswell the first year since horse buses that there wasn't a bus with an open back.
The heritage Blackpool trams also weren't running in 2020 but as they charge indivial fares (and higher ones at that) for use so can cover their costs they will return when custom returns. I doubt the 15(H) will.
