I'm very disappointed mkay315 especially as you are a east London member๐๐๐
Just joking.
Hahaha oh come on. As much as BK and NS had those good titans. The Metrobuses edged it for me. Especially in North London when visiting family ๐๐๐. *sighs* I know I let the side down but it was hard as they're both good. Though to be fair Romford had some metrobuses mainly on the 165 and 365. We had a few stray Metrobuses on the 173 / 473 (Grey Green) and D5, D6 (Capital CityBus) in the early 90s.

I remember some of the Metro used to bang and jolt the bus forward on downshifts. A trait of the Voith gearbox that happened with Tridents and DB250LF's Same also with B7TLs but not sure about the B9TLs.

Technology has advanced so now we get warnings before gearbox gets completely knackered but saying that Iโve driven a Euro 6 E400 that absolute slammed into gear when shifting

I do vaguely remember it on the 173 when it used to go to Stratford but my memory goes blank on the D6 ๐

Was the rear blind difficult to change on the Titan? a few times the the blind mechanism box was left open on buses and it always seems like the blind would be difficult to see compared to say a Trident blind.

but i do find it interesting that their engines sound a bit like the very early DMSs (with the headlights closer to the middle). They would do, same Gardner engine - Gardner 6LXB

I think IIRC it was a set of mirrors. It was very similar to a Gemini 1 i.e. VLW/DW mk1 if they were dirty or not clean even more difficult. If the blindbox light was blown, harder in the night.

Same also with B7TLs but not sure about the B9TLs. Technology has advanced so now we get warnings before gearbox gets completely knackered but saying that Iโve driven a Euro 6 E400 that absolute slammed into gear when shifting I would not say so, some modern buses still have these problems. Even the same Euro 6 E400 I have driven with ZF gearboxes with gearbox downshift banging.

For me, Titans rule over Metrobuses. I feel like a bit of a traitor saying that as I grew up in west London, solid Metrobus territory. I recall trips to Mile End to visit family where we would catch a Titan on the 277 for the final leg of the trip. Titans were superb. Even as a child they were better in every way. The gruff engine, interior layout and the iconic square back window with offset rear blind. The Metrobus was a decent bus, nothing bad to say about them at all, but it was quite plain in comparison. The only plus point for them over a Titan was that for one reason or another, the Metrobus interior felt more spacious.
At one point I lived along the LOR of the 207 and used to enjoy spotting extras running on the N89 and later the N207 on New Years Eve. Occasionally a Titan would show up and it was always exciting to see one in service so deep in west London territory.

All the Way Titan for me, started of on the RM/RML at AR before going opo on the metrobus... joined London Suburban and drove Titans there. Titan was so much better, when MTL took over transferred to HT , and used to take out the Titan in suburban colours on route 10 on a Sunday when not permitted.... just an overall better bus, like another poster only connection growing up was route 34 and N73 .... at black horse or the billet .... however, an awful interior and driving position is awful compared to the Titan ... but, I would own one now if I could lol.

I grew up with both - Titans on the 40/63/185 and Metrobuses on the 312.
Metrobus for me purely because of the gearhold and retarder sound effects!

Iโd go Titan over Metrobus, just, but itโs a very close run thing for me. I see the poor old ECW Ls not getting a lot of love : I was quite fond of these.

Seems to be just me and you who are fond of the ECW Lโs - I preferred the Lโs straight staircase and whilst I like the Titanโs quirky rear window, the L & Mโs rear window (along with DLAโs & Volvo Citybus) were very useful if your on the lookout to catch another bus, all had the ideal rear window for a double decker.
